Week of 10/21/24
Principal's Messaage
Dear Falcon Families,
Last week's safety drills were a success, thanks to the preparedness of our teachers and the serious participation of our students. I’m sure your support played a role in this too! 😀
We are continuing to move forward with our Community School application. On November 6th or 7th, the steering committee will visit Otay as part of the next steps, which include interviewing two families. If you're interested in participating, please reach out to me as soon as possible.
Everyday our dedicated teachers focus not only on academics but also on social-emotional learning (SEL). This month, our schoolwide focus is on emotion management. Please encourage your child to share the skills they’ve been learning. Managing emotions is one of the key challenges we’ve been observing at Otay.
Looking ahead, we have several exciting events coming up, including Red Ribbon Week (the week of 10/28), Costume Parade (10/31), and PTA Sponsored Family Movie Night (11/15). We look forward to seeing you there!
P.s. Have your child sing the Otay Song Song to you! 💙

Theatre Club
Every Friday: 1:30-3:30pm
Students will perform the Great Holiday Bake Off in December.
The last day to sign up is on 10/23.
Learning Pit
Continue to ask your child daily: Did you get into the Learning Pit? At Otay, we encourage students to use a growth mindset to face challenges, have a go at something new, try with a willingness to be confused or make mistakes along the way, and to persist in problem solving.
Attendance-Come to school every day, all day
Congratulations to Mr. Steller's 3rd grade class for having the highest attendance rate for the week of October 14- October 18. (updated data coming soon)
Remember, our goal is 97%. Lately, our average has been 93%. This means about 30 students are absent everyday. Families, what can we do to help?
Surveys
Your feedback matters. I look closely at your responses. At Otay, we strive to provide the best experience for your child and you. Please continue to voice your opinions.

Friendly Reminders
Together we soar! #Partnership
- For safety reasons, students must wear flat, close-toed shoes
- Every minute of instruction counts. If your child forgets snack, lunch, or water, do not worry. Second Chance and lunch will be provided. They also have access to water fountains. We kindly ask that you refrain from dropping off any items. Let’s work together to help our falcons build responsibility.
- Please note that if your child is not picked up on time at dismissal, you'll need to sign them out from the office.
