Message From the Principal
Dear Fammatre Families,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break. Thank you for all of the beautiful holiday cards, warm wishes and thoughtful gifts. I feel so fortunate to be a part of such a kind and giving community.
As I reflect back on the first half of the school year, I am so proud of the work we are doing together to help each and every child learn and thrive. We plan to build upon that positive momentum as we move forward in 2020.
I would like to share with you some exciting events and opportunities coming up in the next month. Part of what makes Fammatre so strong, is our deeply rooted tradition of family involvement. I encourage you to join us for some of the upcoming events listed below.
Student Council
Under the leadership of Mrs. Higa, student council is focused on providing students to improve our campus and school community through service learning projects. The first term ends soon and we are in the process of identifying students in grades 3-5 to serve as student council reps for the remainder of the year. Students interested in participating must submit a written statement to their teacher by the end of this week. The students will read their statement to their class and the class will then have the opportunity to vote on their own classroom representatives. Two representatives will be elected from each class. Your child’s teacher can provide more information, should you have questions. Incoming and outgoing student council reps will be recognized at our Morning Assembly on Friday, January 17th.
Starting Arts
Grades 3-5 are about ready to complete their 6 week performing arts classes with culminating Informance presentations to be held on January 13 and 15th. Students will informally present what they've learned, share their understanding of concepts, and demonstrate some of their favorite theatre activities. Parents are invited and your child’s teacher will let you know the time and location. Grades TK-2 will begin their Starting Arts class sessions the week of January 20th, with their class Informance presentations in March.
Principal Coffee
Join me for coffee and informal conversation at our upcoming Principal Coffee on Thursday, January 23rd from 8:00-9:00am. It’s an opportunity for me to share some of the amazing things happening at Fammatre. This is also a time for us to exchange ideas on ways our school community can continue to grow and improve.
Author Assembly
We are so fortunate to have Bruce Hale, author of the Class Pet Series, at Fammatre on Friday, January 24th. Student assemblies will be held throughout the day. Details will be forthcoming on pre-ordering books and a potential after school book signing opportunity for those who are interested.
Family Dance
Fammatre’s Family Dance will be on Saturday, February 1st from 4-7pm. The theme this year is “Honey, We Shrunk Fammatre”. This magical night will be filled with music, dancing, games, food and mad science. I look forward to seeing everyone there!
School Beautification and Tree Planting Event
Please keep your eyes open for a future announcement on the date for an upcoming community tree planting event. The date will most likely be a Saturday in late January or February. Our City Forest has graciously agreed to provide 19 trees to be planted on our back playground. We thought this would be a great opportunity to do some overall school beautification and help build environmental awareness. If you are able to help out, please contact our Home and School Club.
Warmly,
Jackie Smith
Principal

Practices will be at school on Mondays from 2:45-4:15 and Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00pm. The girls will start practice on Monday, March 2nd, at 2:45pm (3rd grade girls will come out right after School, there will always be a Coach waiting for them). Practices will adjust during minimum days in March, we will always practice directly after school. The program runs through May and ends with our 5k at Vasona Park on Saturday, May 16th, 2020.
Lottery registration will be held starting Monday, January 6th, through Wednesday, January 15th. The system will then close on January 16th, as the computer-generated lottery takes place - families will be notified once the lottery is complete. Registration will open back up on Friday, January 17th, on a first come first serve basis. The cost of the program will be $225 which includes, a practice t-shirt, a race shirt, and entry to the 5k for your daughter. The link to the online registration is on the website at www.gotrsv.org. Girls may only register for teams where they attend school during this time.
