The Impact of Career and Technical Student Organizations
Joining a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) provides LCTC students with an opportunity to develop and refine the skills they have acquired in their chosen occupational areas. As members of a CTSO, students take on leadership roles and participate in competitions, workshops, and community service. It has been an amazing year for LCTC students who participate in CTSOs!
LCTC offers students opportunities to join the following organizations: SkillsUSA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), or the most recently adopted Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). At the start of the 23-24 school year, LCTC was excited to add FCCLA as an option for students interested in Pathways to Teaching. The members of the Pathways to Teaching program have already started participating in their new CTSO, attending competitions to help with judging, hosting parents' night-out fundraisers, and learning about different opportunities they have through the organization. No matter what Career and Technical Organization LCTC students become involved in, their participation provides an excellent path for them to further develop their technical and leadership skills. They also have opportunities to travel, meet people from all over the country, and learn more about opportunities within their chosen career path.
Four members of a CTSO worked their way through extremely challenging competitions and came home as 2023 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! Adult Marine Technology student Alex Lopez won the Postsecondary Marine Service Technology National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia. LCTC Graphic Arts students Braden Deal (junior), Lukas Farthing (senior), and Joseph Holt (senior) competed with 15,000 students from all over the world in the FBLA “Public Service Announcement” contest and took home the championship title. Another notable student achievement comes from Isabella Hamner, a senior agriculture student, who has become part of the top 1% of FFA students in Missouri to be selected to serve on the Missouri FFA State Officer Team for 2023-24. It is so exciting to see LCTC students thrive with CTSO opportunities!
