Clyde Erwin Elementary School
Dr. Patterson's Weekly Update
Eagle Pride: Video by Dr. Patterson
October 20, 2019
Happy Sunday! Eagle Pride!
We had another awesome week at Clyde Erwin! Our fourth and fifth grade students completed the NC Check-In assessment in reading, and fifth grade students completed the assessment for science. Thank you to our test coordinators and teachers for working so hard to make the process run so smoothly. Thank you to our students for working so hard and doing their best. Additionally, thank you to our parents who made sure students were at school and on time. When students are on time, both instructional time and assessments are uninterrupted.
We have a dress-down day coming up on Friday, October 25. Students may dress down for a $1.00 donation. The proceeds from this fundraiser benefit our school supply general fund. Thank you for your support!
Little Caesars Fundraiser
Thank you to all of our students who participated in our Little Caesars fundraiser. We made $1,000 for our school! This money adds to our general fund and will allow us to purchase more digital devices for our K-1 classrooms. Any student who sold at least 1 pizza kit will receive a dress-down pass this week to be used on any day of choice. Any student who sold at least 5 kits will participate in duct-taping Dr. Patterson and Mr. Ron to the wall.
Clyde Erwin Button Project
We have an awesome project beginning on Monday, October 21 called the Clyde Erwin Button Project. Flyers were sent home on Friday, October 11 about this project, and we are excited to begin soon. Each month, this project will focus on one of our IB Attitudes. The first IB Attitude of focus is Cooperation. Students are able to purchase a blank circle for $0.25 to create and submit a design that represents Cooperation. All designs are due no later than Friday, October 25. A group of judges will choose one design as the winner for that month, and buttons will be created to sell with the winning design. The student designer will receive a free button. The buttons will be sold for $1.00, and proceeds will always benefit our students. The proceeds from our October sales will benefit our Academic Derby Team for 2019-2020. This
project is completely student-led.
Red Ribbon Week Canned Food Drive
We are holding a canned food drive during Red Ribbon Week, October 28-November 1, 2019. The non-perishable food items collected during this week benefit the United Way CHEW Program. The CHEW Program directly benefits students in our school. All students who donate a food item during the week will be allowed to dress down on Friday, November 1. Thank you for your support of the United Way CHEW Program!
Storybook Character Dress-Up Day
We have our annual Storybook Character Dress-Up Day on October 31, 2019. As you are preparing for this fun day, we just want to remind parents that there should be no scary costumes. The cost for Storybook Character Dress-Up Day is $2.00, and all proceeds benefit extracurricular clubs at Clyde Erwin.
Make-up Days
We have one additional make-up day due to time missed during Hurricane Dorian. Students will also attend school on Friday, January 3, 2020, which was a teacher workday and is now a student day. Please make adjustments to your calendars.
Free and Reduced Meals
If you are interested in applying for free and reduced meals for the 2019-2020 school year, please get the application submitted ASAP.
