We're looking forward to welcoming students back as school begins next week and to a great year of learning and growth together. We are excited to work together to help our students have a successful and fulfilling school year. Thank you for all you do at home to prepare them for each day!
The first day of school can be both exciting and a bit unsettling for students. Here are some tips to help start the school year off on the right foot.
- Practice the Morning Routine: A few days before school starts, practice waking up at the right time, getting dressed, and eating breakfast to make the first day smoother.
- Locate Your Bus Stop (if applicable): A few days before school starts, use a watch/clock to time how long it takes to walk to your bus stop. Add 5-10 minutes to the walk time to know when to leave your house for the first day of school.
- Prepare the Night Before: Lay out your clothes, pack your backpack, and collect any items needed for the morning. This reduces stress in the morning.
- Believe in Yourself: The first day of school is the start of something great. Believe in yourself, stay curious, and remember that every step you take is part of your amazing journey.”
- Make The Day Count: Every day is a chance to learn something new and make a difference. Make the first, and every day count, and let your light shine!
For Younger Students (K- Grade 4):
- Know Your Teacher's Name: Make sure you know your teacher's name.
- Practice Basic Routines: Go over simple routines like lining up, raising your hand, and using polite words.
- Understand the School Day: Talk with a parent or guardian about what to expect during the day, such as lunch and recess times.
- Stay Calm: It’s normal to feel a little nervous, but remember that your teachers are there to help you.
For Older Students (Grades 5-8):
- Review the School Map: Familiarize yourself with the arrival/dismissal map of the school to make entering and leaving the school easier.
- Introduce Yourself: Take the initiative to introduce yourself to new classmates or reconnect with old friends.
- Get Involved: Look out for information about clubs, sports, or activities that might interest you.
- Communicate with Teachers: If you feel overwhelmed, let your teacher or aide know. They are there to support you.
These tips should help students feel more prepared and confident as they begin the new school year!
