Moore Street School
Week of September 23, 2024
* We are fast approaching the end of the 1st 9 weeks. This represents 1/4 of the entire school year.
* Fall parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for October 7-18. Your child's homeroom teacher will confirm your conference date and time. Our goal is to conduct 100% in person parent conferences.
*Parents, we want to ensure you that safety remains our 1st priority here at Moore Street School. If you need to visit the campus for any reason please adhere to our safety protocols. Every person will be required to clear the medal detectors before entering the building. Also please refer to previous correspondence sent out concerning district wide intruder alert training scheduled for September 24th.
* Attendance continues to be an area of focus. Parents if your child is not in Tier 1 of the DCS attendance protocol we have created an attendance recovery plan for them. Students will be required to recover attendance in Evening School. The days/hours are Monday-Thursday 2:15-5:15 p.m. We conducted attendance recovery conferences last week.
* Another area of focus for the 1st 45 days of school is "How are we using student achievement data?" Once we give a benchmark, a formative assessment, or any graded assignment, how is that informing what we are doing in the classroom? Our goal is to give the students multiple opportunities to engage with the standard to ensure mastery. For example, as part of a unit on genetics and heredity, Mr. Puckett's biology students used origami paper folding techniques to model the DNA double helix molecule. Additional strategies such as peer tutoring are being used in Mrs. Newton's classes. See photos below.
* Moore Street School continues to celebrate Mr. Jeffrey Puckett for being selected as the 2025 Teacher of The Year and Mrs. Stefanie Wright for being selected as the 2025 Support Staff of The Year. They will be recognized at the football game on Friday October 4, 2024. See photo below.
* We will be celebrating homecoming Sept. 30 through October 4th. A flyer will be sent home with details. We encourage all students to participate. This is a great opportunity to show school spirit and to build positive school culture.
* Parents if your child is not on track academically they should be taking advantage of evening/after school. Evening/after school meets Monday-Thursday from 2:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Bus transportation is available and a meal is served each day. Monday and Wednesday math and science is the focus. Tuesday and Thursday English and Social Studies is the focus.
*We have 1 family engagement activity scheduled for the month of September. Family engagement activities are great ways for you to get involved in your child's academic progress. These sessions provide information, strategies, and hands on opportunities for the whole family. Please see flyer below for the upcoming sessions.
