Our Students: A Testament to Grit
Watching our seniors navigate the complex world of college applications, auditions, acceptances, and (yes, sometimes) rejections has filled me with immense pride and admiration. Their resilience, their sheer grit, is truly inspiring. Have there been moments of frustration, tears, or the urge to throw something soft at a wall when a publication deadline was missed, a coveted role wasn't cast their way, the color wasn't quite right, or a film festival rejection landed in their inbox? Absolutely. And you know what? That's okay. It's more than okay; it's vital.
Disappointment is an inevitable part of life, and it's in those moments that true grit is forged. It's how we learn to channel those negative emotions and use them as fuel for our passions. Our NESA students understand this. They don't give up. They embody the understanding that hard work will always eclipse raw talent. But the secret to their success isn't just one thing. It's a powerful combination: raw talent, the guidance of the best directors in the world, and relentless hard work. And perhaps most importantly, it's the ability to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and keep moving forward. This combination makes them unstoppable.
As parents, you play a crucial role in this journey. Thank you for being their safety net, their unwavering support system. But thank you, too, for allowing them to experience those inevitable stumbles, for giving them the space to explore those difficult emotions in a safe and supportive environment. As parents, seeing your children struggle is perhaps the hardest thing you do. But just as a butterfly helped out of its chrysalis will never thrive, it is through these struggles that true strength is born. Thank you for helping them build that strength.
They will need it. They will need it as they become the successful artists, actors, dancers, directors, engineers, surgeons, and tradespeople we know they will be. I have no doubt that these students will change the world. They have the talent, the drive, and the grit to make it happen.
