๐บ Weekly Howl ๐บ
These days are just flying by! This week Leadership hosted their final Spirit Week. Tuesday's "Anything but a Backpack" day was especially fun with so many creative ways to carry their things. From soup pots, to tiny toy shopping carts, wagons, and baskets, I think our students found a new appreciation for their beloved backpack. Speaking of backpacks, next week is the last week they will need them. Students should plan on NOT bringing a backpack during the last week of school.
This week our 7th graders attended a field trip at the Exploratorium. HUGE thanks to all the families who stepped up to support this event and to the teacher for their careful planning of such a thoughtful experience. We are really lucky to have a dedicated staff committed to bringing back these opportunities, which we haven't done since before COVID.
Please remember that there is no school next Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. Wednesday will see a day full of end of year activities for all of our grade levels, and Friday we dance the night away with our 8th grade only dance. If your student did not have the opportunity to RSVP for the dance, you may do so at this link: Glowchella Dance RSVP. All 8th grade students are invited to come, but we want to make sure that we have enough food for them! TODAY is the last day to RSVP - we want to see you all there GLOWING!
Whether you are staying local, or adventuring out this three day weekend, please be safe and stay healthy.
Have a great 3 day weekend Wolves - we will see you on Tuesday, May 28!

We have been sending a flurry of emails, and wanted to share information here for ease:

Volunteer Sign Ups
Level 2 volunteers can sign up for as many shifts as they would like. If you don't have a level 2 volunteer authorization you can still sign for one of these shifts. Ms. Nikita in the front office can do a quick background check and provide you with level 1 volunteer authorization which will allow you to sign up for one of these hour-long jobs. Make sure to check in at the office before the event. Thank you for your support!
๐ฆบ Safety Reminders ๐ฆบ
We have had a couple safety concerns come up in this last week of school and want to offer a couple reminders: Please monitor your child's social media accounts or the apps downloaded on phones or devices from time to time. We have a number of conflicts beginning because of content shared over these apps. There are some apps out there that allow students to use an anonymous phone number - this allows them to call or text their friends from an unknown number, which could be alarming depending on the content shared. If you find something of concern, please alert site administration right away.
Additionally, as students arrive and depart from school, we advocate using the buddy system as students walk through the neighborhood. If you are picking up your student, have a prearranged location where they know to expect you. Students who ride their bikes should wear proper safety equipment, and be sure to look for cars or other pedestrians.
We know that many of our families and students do these things already, and we thank you for helping us learn more about our students' habits.

- Avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe COVID-19 for 10 days*. Higher-risk individuals include the elderly and those who live in congregate care facilities.
- Seek treatmentโ. If you have symptoms, contact a healthcare provider as soon as you test positive, especially if you are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
Important Learning to be done!
In our efforts to curb tardies, we continue to enforce the following rules in order to promote an effective learning environment:
- 10/10 Rule: Students will not be allowed out of class in the first and last ten minutes of class. This is to ensure that they are getting set up for success, have the opportunity to write in their planner, and complete warm up activities. The last ten minutes ensure they get the homework and any last minute announcements.
- Teacher Dismisses the Class, Not the Bell: Students are often anxious to get out to break and transition into their new classes. Students need to remain seated until their teacher dismisses them. This will have the added safety benefit of reducing the number of false fire alarms as students have less access to the pull stations.
- Hall Passes: When students leave the classroom, they are required to have a current hall pass that marks the time they left and the location to which they are going.
While these are all procedures WMMS staff are working together to implement, reviewing them with your student will be very helpful. We thank you for your support.
