OLQA Friday Family Newsletter
October 18th, 2024
Principal's Message
OLQA Family,
We had a great week! After starting with a great Mass, we had a number of events. The 1st and 2nd grade started Tennis at Randall's Island, while the middle school had their first week of Latin Classes. It was also great to see so many parents at Progress Report Conferences. We hope that this shift will allow for students to improve their grades before the end of Quarter 1 on 11/8.
We are very excited about Fall Fun Day coming up. Kids will get to dress down or wear a costume with a $2 donation. We also plan to have snacks and activities in the gym. We need parents to assist in making this happen, so if you are available, please volunteer by filling out the link below. It is such a fun day that the kids love, so look forward to working with you to make it a success!
Couple other reminders on the horizon. Remember that there is no school on Wednesday for Teacher meetings. Cristo Rey is scheduled to visit 8th Grade on Tuesday and we have the 8th Grade HS workshop on Thursday. Also, Winter Uniform, as discussed in Back to School Night and listed on the uniform overview, begins on 11/1. This means that everyone wears long sleeves, not the polo, and boys wear a shirt and tie.
Have a wonderful weekend!

- Boys will need to start wearing the tie with their white dress shirts.

Lunch Drop off
We’ve noticed a recent trend where lunches are being dropped off after the school day has started. Please understand that we cannot disturb the class or leave the front desk to deliver lunches, and we are not responsible if a child does not receive their lunch. To avoid any issues, please ensure your child has their lunch with them at drop-off. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Middle School Enrichment: Latin and GLAM (Girls Learn Advanced Math)
We are continuing two enrichment programs from Last Year, the Aequora Latin Program and GLAM (Girls Learn Advanced Math). Both programs will be held after school on Thursdays and sign up sheets are below.
Mass Trackers + Pizza Party
We want to encourage students to regularly attend Mass. As a way to encourage this, we will have a pizza party for students who attend Mass 10 times outside of school between now and December. They can track their Mass attendance using the tracker below.
Also, we encourage students to attend our local Parish, St. Cecilia's (106th Street between Park and Lex). On Sundays, they have Mass at:
- 9:00 (English)
- 11:00 (Spanish)
- 12:30 (Spanish)
Help your children grow in their faith by taking them to Mass! The children DO NOT have to go to st. Cecila's Parish, as long as they are attending a church it does not matter!
Immunization Reminder
Please remember to bring in your Medical Forms. New York State requires all immunizations to be up to date and your child can be excluded from school if they are not completed.
After School + Early Drop Off
Early Drop off will begin this Monday 9/16. Make sure to register for the program using the link later in the newsletter. Early Drop off will go from 7:15 to 7:45, Monday through Friday.
Verification Letters
Verification letters for students will be done on Wednesdays ONLY. Please note that creating verification letters takes time. Kindly allow sufficient processing time for your requests. Thank you for your understanding and patience!
Metro cards
Metro cards were given to students. If you have not received a metro card please reach out to Ms. Jenniffer. jengarcia@olqaeastharlem.org. There will only be one replacement if the child loses it.
