Strawtown Family Newsletter
June Edition
Dear Strawtown Families,
As we enter the final month of the school year, I want to express my appreciation to everyone in the Strawtown Community! First and foremost, thank you for all the time, energy, and effort you have given your children this year to help them grow and learn. We truly value a strong home-school connection because that is what is most beneficial to all of our students. I would also like to thank you for welcoming me into the community. Seeing so many happy kids this year at Strawtown has been amazing!
While perfection is not actually attainable, especially in elementary school, I want to be able to celebrate the positives and make progress in areas that require attention. To that end, I invite you to participate in a year-end reflection survey. The survey consists of three sections(two are optional) and should not take more than 15 minutes to complete. Your feedback helps me guide my strategic planning as we move forward as a school.
No matter where your summer takes you, I hope it is full of joy, relaxation, and good fortune! In August, I will send out my first family communication for the 2024-2525 school year.
With gratitude and appreciation,
Colin Andersen

Summer Activities:
School's Out. Now what? Here is a resource containing many sub-links to activities at home, locally, or more adventurous activities that you might want to try over the summer with your school-aged child. I hope you find it helpful.
Early Release Days:
This is just a reminder that half-days start on June 21st. Our school day ends at 10:30 on June 21st 24th, and 25th, so if you have any dismissal changes for those days, please email your child's teacher and the Strawtown Office, preferably the night before but no later than 9:00 a.m. to notify us of the change. On June 26th, we end at 9:30 a.m. please email any dismissal changes by 8:15 a.m.
Chromebooks:
As we begin to close up shop for this school year, we have to handle the return/keeping of our student Chromebooks. All 5th graders must return their Chromebooks. All students in Grades 2, 3, and 4, please hold onto your Chromebooks over the summer, and K&1 students will stay in the classrooms over the summer.
Assemblies:
This month, we will have our final Cultural Arts Assembly for the year. Originally scheduled for March this year, the Zuzu Acrobats will visit Strawtown on June 7th to perform for all grade levels. It will be an exciting show where students learn about Western African culture.
Field Day:
Our annual Field Day is returning on June 14th. It will be a fun-filled day of games for our students. An ice cream truck, Kangaroo Swirls, will be present so the kids can get a frozen treat after their games. Here is a list of items that will be available on that day. Please review the options with your child for any allergy concerns and to help expedite the ordering process on field day.
Kindergarten Show:
Our end-of-year Kindergarten Show will occur on Monday, June 17th, at 8:45 a.m. in the Cafeteria. Please note there is a limit of two adults per Kindergarten student for this event.
Grade 5 Moving Up:
The Grade 5 Moving Up Ceremony will occur on Tuesday, June 18th, at 9:00 a.m. Our goal is to have the event outdoors, but it will be held in the Cafeteria in the event of rain. If it is an outdoor event, you are welcome to bring more than two family members and your own seating for those additional guests; however, if the event is located inside, there will be a two-adult limit per child.
Warm Weather:
As the weather continues to warm up, please send your children dressed for the day's weather. Students will not be permitted to change clothing during the day unless an unexpected occurrence happens. Students changing clothes during the day is disruptive, so please plan for the high temperature and send a sweatshirt for the chillier mornings. In addition, students should not wear slide sandals because it is not safe for recess and P.E. time. Students can wear Crocs in "sport mode." If your child does wear slip-on slide sandals, their activity choice at recess will be limited. Please also send a water bottle to your child.
Cellphones, SMART Watches, Gum:
As a reminder, students should not have cellphones or Smartwatches on during the day. They should remain off and placed in the bottom of the backpack. If a device goes off during the day, the teachers will remind each student to turn it off. If a student misuses the device repeatedly, it may be taken away and will need to be picked up by an adult. In addition, as a reminder, gum is not allowed during the school day. I appreciate your attention to these matters.
