Compass Academy will offer our First Responders class beginning in January with the first class meeting on January 14th. This class is taught in partnership with the St. Charles Police, TriCom Central 911 Dispatch, and staff from Delnor Hospital. Students will learn in depth about careers in this important fabric of our community and earn academic and elective credit.
Information about this course is linked HERE. To sign up for the course, students (while signed into their D303 Google account) must complete THIS FORM. This class is open to the first 20 students who register on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not register unless you are certain you can fully commit to participating in this class since there are limited seats.
Ms. Ohlson will send out information to students and parents in the course the week of January 6th. The first class meeting is on Tuesday, January 14th.

FIRST SEMESTER GRADE REPORTING
Grades for first semester classes will be posted in HAC on Friday, January 10th. As a reminder, when a student receives an APR (Approaching Competency), this may be due to: A) insufficient evidence, or B) the student having demonstrated growth but needing more time to demonstrate proficiency on all course competencies (the “not yet” concept).
If a student has a grade of APR with a notation in Schoology of insufficient evidence, this means the student either did little or no work in the course or demonstrated minimal or no understanding of course competencies. In this instance, students may not continue to pursue credit in that specific course and the APR will stay on their transcript, counting not as a failure but as a course audit where some foundational learning may have occurred but for which no credit was earned (similar to an audit). Students with insufficient evidence will need to pursue that credit through a different seminar, by taking the same seminar again later, or through an independent study or independent student learning experience (ISLE).
If a student has a grade of APR with a notation in Schoology of support needed or behind pace, this means that the student has been working toward demonstrating proficiency on course competencies, but that they need additional support and/or time to meet overall competency requirements for the course. In this instance, students will be granted up to one additional quarter to work on demonstrating proficiency and they will be required to attend one of the blocks of time aligned with our Students Working Academically to Make Progress (SWAMP) academic intervention: Tuesday and/or Thursday during Block E (3:45-5:45) or Wednesday morning from 9:15-11:15.

THIS WEEK'S GLIMPSE AROUND CAMPUS
Compass Academy staff and families gathered to recognize our Students of the Quarter for second quarter on Wednesday, December 18th. Students were recognized for positive contributions to the Compass community by demonstrating one or more of the Directions to Success: Navigating challenges, Embracing opportunities for growth, Seeking knowledge, and Welcoming others and ideas. The students who were recognized are (L to R): Kiera M., Brian S., Charlotte S., Lillian S., Cadence A., Anna N., Thea D., Anaya Y., Ivy D., Taryn M., and Jacques G. Congratulations, Gators!
Students in the CNC Machining class completed the mill operations on their aluminum blocks, cutting a custom design that incorporated their initials. Staff members and students enjoyed a winter "Spirit Week" in the week leading up to winter break, dressing in comfy holiday-themed attire each day.
