Thomson Tidbits
Back to School Newsletter- August 2024
Welcome!
Dear Thomson Families,
As we embark on the new school year, I am thrilled to welcome each of you to the 2024/2025 academic year at Thomson Elementary. Our Thomson motto, "In the end, it is a good beginning that counts," reminds us of the importance of starting strong and setting a positive tone for the months ahead.
August is an exciting time filled with anticipation and new beginnings. Our dedicated teachers and staff have been working tirelessly to prepare an engaging and supportive learning environment for your children. We are committed to fostering a community where every student feels valued, inspired, and ready to learn.
Throughout the month, we have several events planned to help ease the transition back to school. Please mark your calendars for the following:
- Thomson Elementary Open House: Wednesday, August 14th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
- First Day of School: Monday, August 19th, 2024
During the open house you will meet your child's teacher and learn more about the year ahead. We encourage you to stay involved and connected through our regular updates and school events.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Together, let's make this a remarkable year filled with growth, achievement, and memorable experiences.
Most Sincerely,
Andrew Criswell
Proud Thomson Principal
Thomson Parent Orientation Presentation
As we prepare for the start of the 2024/2025 school year, we encourage you to take a few minutes to watch our Orientation video. This video contains important information that will help ensure a smooth and successful start to the school year for your child. This video will also be shared out via the email you provided during enrollment.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We look forward to a great year ahead!
Parent Pick-Up, Bus Tags and QR Codes! 🚌
Parent Pick-Up:
- Please have your ID ready
- Parent pick-up will take place in the gym
- The doors for parent pick-up will open at 3:15
- If you are running late, please call the office. Children can become nervous when they don't see you.
- If you are picking your child up before school is out, you MUST come to the office. Students will not be released to a parent unless the teacher is notified by the office.
- When signing your child out early, please:
- Have your ID
- Write the child's first and last name
- Write your name
- Write the reason for leaving early
Bus Tags & QR Codes:
Every child riding the bus MUST have a Bus Number tag in the pouch attached to his/her backpack everyday, or a Parent Pick-Up tag. With our current routing system, bus drivers will be scanning the QR Code which then prompts that child's stop in the route guidance system. Your child's tag should show the bus number on one side and name, address and room number on the other.
Additionally, I want to ask for your patience with busing the first couple weeks of school. Our bus drivers work diligently to ensure accuracy with their bus route and in doing so, arrival times are often delayed the first couple of days/weeks.
*If there are changes needed to your child's transportation, please complete a new transportation form and return it to Thomson as soon as possible. Transportation changes can take up to two weeks to process due to the rerouting that needs to be completed. Questions regarding busing should be directed to our Transportation Department 810-591-0816.

Universal Free Breakfast and Lunch!! 🥪
As previously shared by the District, the budget approved by the state Legislature and signed by the Governor included funding for the 2024-2025 school year that will allow all Michigan school students to continue to receive breakfast and lunch free of charge.
If your child will be eating breakfast at school, they will need to head to the gym once entering the building to grab a breakfast or at the grab and go table in the hallway. Students will then take that breakfast back to their classroom to eat. Please share this information with your child to help on the first day.
For lunch, students will have a choice of 'hot lunch' or they may bring a home or 'cold' lunch in a lunchbox. A school lunch menu will be sent home monthly.
