Pleasantville Elementary
Back to School 2016-2017
Pleasantville Community School District's Mission
Come Join Us at Open House August 29th
Welcome back everyone! We are so excited to begin another fantastic school year! Please come visit us on August 29th from 6-7 PM to see our school and meet your teachers!
Our school district is committed to excellence in education. In this age of accountability, schools need to demonstrate that kids are learning proficiently. Pleasantville Elementary once again performed in outstanding fashion in all measurable assessments. Our scores were at or greater than our AEA's average as well as the entire state's average. Recently, our school was studied by an Iowa superintendent writing his doctoral dissertation on schools that are outperforming their expected performance!
School though should be more than just test scores. At Pleasantville Elementary, we are committed to our district's mission of making our kids ready for an unpredictable tomorrow. Last year, our school began implementation of The Leader In Me, a process developed around the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People framework (Stephen Covey). We want our kids academically, emotionally and socially ready for the demands of the 21st century, discover their talents, and be better prepared to be leaders in their diverse, future environments. See the video link below for more information.
We hope you'll be on board in helping make the 2016-2017 school year one of the best ever at Pleasantville Elementary.
Sincerely,
Tom Roff
Principal
New Staff at Pleasantville Elementary
Emily Hoffman will be joining us in 5th grade. A graduate of Carlisle HS and UNI, Emily is coming to us from the Norwalk school district, but she and her family have lived in Pleasantville for a few years now. At Norwalk, Emily was a strong teacher-leader that we feel very fortunate to have here in our school!
Abby Eakes will be joining our 4th grade staff. Abby is originally from southwest Kansas but attended nearby Central College. Abby is a go-getter with an outstanding personality and we know her students will love her!
Daria Simpson has taken the reigns of our elementary music and band program. Daria taught in the Colfax-Mingo district last year and lives in Pella. She's originally from Mason City, IA and majored in music at Wartburg College. Daria knows how to build great relationships with her students and has the high energy necessary to do her job well.
Also hired this summer were four wonderful associates, Amanda Lawson, Savanna Coram, Elissa Pettyjohn, and Logan Hayes. They will be working 1-on-1 with some of our students.
We are excited to have them join our school family and know they will be tremendous assets to our school!
We're Growing!
