In previous years, thousands of families let their voices be heard in Albemarle County Schools’ Family Feedback Survey. This informed important decisions, such as hosting more events for families connected to student learning. However, last year, we only had 28 Stony Point responses to this survey. We are going for 135 responses this year! Currently, we are at 58 responses.

Thank you for your understanding as we rescheduled our K-2 music performance due to unforeseen circumstances. Ms. Ferber, our music teacher, has set the new date for Wednesday, May 22nd at 6:30pm. There will be an in-school performance the next day, May 23rd, at 8:30am.

We are in need of a family member to represent Stony Point on the ACPS Family Advisory Council next year. The Family Council serves as a forum for parents and guardians, educators, and school officials to share ideas and exchange information in order to further advance the quality of the public education system within Albemarle County. Parent Council meets monthly.

Yesterday during our staff meeting, our teachers shared celebrations of professional learning and shifting practices that resulted in student growth. These celebrations were the culminating result of our year-long action research cycle, a process that pushes us all to continue to grow and analyze data to determine the effectiveness of our practices. Our teachers engaged in book studies, attended professional conferences, observed each other, implemented research-based programs and practices, and more. We are thankful for their hard work and commitment to the highest quality of learning for all of our students!

Paper reminder slips will be sent home the week of May 20th for all library books that need to be turned in.

Students in grades 3-5 across the state of Virginia will take their SOL assessments during the month of May. Please let your homeroom teacher know as soon as possible if you anticipate your child being absent on one of their testing dates. Testing will begin at the beginning of the day- we appreciate your partnership in helping your child arrive to school well-rested and on time. Our W.I.N. (What I Need) tutoring time will end at the beginning of May prior to SOL testing.

Join us on Saturday May 18th from 10:00-11:30 in the Wilton Farm neighborhood for our annual Books and Donuts event! Come enjoy a donut and choose two free books from The Free Book Bus. Look for the yellow school bus parked by the leasing office!

This new section of The Thunder will be updated with opportunities for camps, fun activities, and events over the summer as we receive the information.

Mrs. Owney will be leading a kid's night out event called Encore on May 17th from 6-9 p.m. This night out event is a drop off event for parents to have a night out, while kids have all the fun experiencing the fun night of drama club in a hangout session. The VDOE and the Virginia Department of Veterans Services will be participating in a “Virginia Military Signing Day” event at the Virginia War Memorial on May 17, 2024, from 6-7:30 p.m. This is the agency’s fourth year celebrating high school students entering military service.

The Stony Point Volunteer Fire Company is celebrating its 50th anniversary! Join them for their open house on May 18th from 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM at the Stony Point Ruritan for music, kid friendly activities, and refreshments.

If you have a child who will turn 5 by September 30th, it's nearly time to prepare for Kindergarten! The online registration window is open now through Friday May 31st. Click HERE to complete the online registration form. This same form can be used for new students in other grades who are not currently enrolled in Albemarle County Public Schools.

Note: Current students in ACPS including students coming to Stony Point from Cascadia and Riverview do not have to re-register.

With only two teachers at each grade level, honoring teacher requests is not something we can do at a small school; however, we'd like your input on how your child learns best, and we will take that into consideration when making class lists. Click HERE to fill out an optional form providing us with input on your child as a learner. If you have multiple children, fill out a different form for each child.

Please note that if you include specific teacher or student names (other than your student) we cannot use this information because the data is shared with teachers to help them prepare for their incoming class.

We are in need of some additional packaged snacks to get us through the end of the year. Thank you for considering donating snacks for students who may not be able to bring a snack on a particular day.

We have an overflowing lost and found with many jackets and items! We keep the Lost and Found right outside of the cafeteria. Please feel free to check in at the front office and stop by to see what your child/children may be missing.

Your ongoing input is invaluable in our sustained efforts to create the best possible experience for our Stony Point Dragons. We invite you to share your thoughts, ideas, and questions to ensure we continue to meet the needs of our school community. The feedback form will be viewed by the Stony Point Principal and Assistant Principal in order for them to understand what students are enjoying, address any concerns, and implement improvements.
