Easley Weekly Update
Everything You Need to Know for the coming week.
September 4, 2022
a note from the principal
I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend.
We are sending sincere gratitude for making our Book Fair an outstanding success! We loved seeing all the grandfriends and family members in the building. We raised several thousand dollars for the school library. All this would not be possible without volunteers from our school community – a special thanks to everyone who helped out at the fair!
If your child missed out on the Fair (or already finished every new book), there’s still time to shop! Our Book Fair will continue online through September 7th using this website: https://www.scholastic.com/bf/easleyelementaryschool1
School Data Release
On Thursday the State of North Carolina released our school’s performance data for last school year. I am pleased to share that Easley exceeded growth and maintained the Performance Letter Grade of B. We know how important it is that every child learns and grows in our school and we are proud of the hard work put forth by our students and staff. The state’s accountability standards are one way that we track our progress, but it’s just as important that you feel satisfied with your child’s individual academic progress and engaged with our school community. Our teachers and staff will work with you and your child to meet these high standards and ensure that our students will leave Durham Public Schools ready for college or the workplace.
If you would like additional information about our school performance data and what they mean, we will host a Parent Information Session via Zoom on Tuesday, September 13th at 5:30 PM. There is also information available on the Durham Public Schools website on the DPS website.
Thank you to everyone who completed the Fall Festival form. We only have twenty-six responses. Please take a moment to complete the brief survey so the committee can adequately and appropriately plan.
Growing Together - Redistricting Information
There have been a lot of questions around how the redistricting will impact siblings who start school in the Fall of 2024. I reached out to the DPS Planning Committee to inquire about this and was pointed to the Board policy listed below. Mr. Palmer told me that sibling placement will be considered and that the goal is to keep siblings at the same school. We will discuss this further at the next SIT meeting on Wednesday, September 7th.

Do you want to help support our school while bonding with other Easley families, teachers, and staff? We still have openings to work concessions at some upcoming Duke Football home games. Easley PTA receives a portion of the sales. More information and a sign-up can be found at this link. If you have any questions please contact Sara Harrel at sara.harrel@gmail.com.
Easley Fall Festival
Planning for our Fall Festival/Carnival on October 15th from 1 pm to 4 pm is well underway. However, it would greatly help our co-chairs if we could get a bit of information from you. Please take a minute to fill out this survey to let us know if you will be attending, if you can volunteer, or if you have contacts to vendors or party rentals. Thank you!
