Greetings from Pastor John
Hi Church,
This week we will be in 1 John Chapter 2. The instructions look not only to out behavior and actions regarding love but more so where our understanding of love comes from.

April 10 - 17, 2024
● Pray for Donna Demoura and her family as her 57-year-old son, Paul, was killed by a hit and run driver last week.
● Pray for our lead Pastor, John Eger, as he begins a new sermon series on the short letters of 1, 2, and 3 John.
● Pray for the funds to come in to pay for the new septic pumps we have had to install as a result of the Palm Sunday flood.
● Praise the Lord Office Manager, Amy Pelletier, is back on duty after a very difficult struggle with kidney stones.
● Pray for Roger Bachelder’s recovery from knee replacement surgery this week.
● Pray for the former FAC members of the Joiner family, having lost wife and mother, Carlene, to ALS last week.
● Pray for Rachel Spader’s summer mission with CRU in the Middle East.
● Pray for the Jenkins family as Tom’s 92-year-old father passed away this week.
● Praise the Lord for peaceful elections in Senegal and a good trip to France for the Walkers to fellowship with language students.
● Praise the Lord that Dawn Mattera is beginning to feel better in Romania after being laid low for weeks with a viral infection. Continue to Pray for strength and healing as she prepares to head back to the states at the end of the month.
Family Discussion Starters
•How did Jesus show He is God when He calmed the storm?
•How does Jesus’ authority over all creation lead you to worship Him and submit to His rule, even in hard times?
Because we are loved by God, who has authority over all creation, we seek to demonstrate bold faith in Him no matter our circumstances so that others might come to trust in Jesus for salvation.
• HEAD: What are some ways God reveals His omnipotent power today?
• HEART: For what areas of your life can you confess that you are afraid to walk in obedient faith?
• HANDS: How can you show God’s compassion and mercy by being compassionate and merciful in Jesus’s name this week?
Voices in Church History
“For when he arose, and rebuked the sea,
and silenced the storm, he plainly disclosed two things:
that the storm of the sea was not simply from winds,
but from the fear of the Lord who walked upon it;
and that the Lord who rebuked it was not a creature,
but rather its creator.”
~Athanasius (c. 296–373)
Thank you for your prayers! So much has happened since we last wrote. The Senegal elections were moved back up and took place on March 24th. Amazingly, one of the 19 candidates running was able to win over 50% of the vote and has already been inaugurated. The entire process went very calmly and smoothly. We just returned from our trip to visit the language students in Albertville, France. Less than a week before our trip, we learned that Air Brussels was going on strike and worked with our travel agent to switch airlines. Then Air Brussels averted the strike, and we had to cancel the newer tickets and go back to our original tickets. We had a wonderful visit with the language students and enjoyed a couple of days as a family in Normandy and Paris. Thank you for praying for us through all the adventures above! We leave today for the Alliance West African Conference about 1 ½ hours south of Dakar.
Below, please find our April Praises and Prayer Requests.
Praises:
Praise the Lord that the small spot on Jaynee’s toe that was in the middle of the skin graft from her melanoma surgery 11 years ago was able to be removed, tested, and the results were benign!
Praise the Lord for calm elections and the transfer of power in Senegal.
Praise the Lord, our trip went well, we had safe travels, and we had a wonderful time with the language students!
Praise the Lord that Stan and Caleb are on the mend after battling some viruses.
Praise the Lord that we were able to stay somewhat caught up during our travels and that Stan was able to keep up with all the last-minute changes for the upcoming conference.
Praise the Lord, our dear friends the Haywards are coming out to the conference to work on our IWs dental needs and will be staying a few days extra with us!
Prayer Requests:
We leave today for the Alliance West African Conference. Pray for safe travels for all those coming from Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, Congo, Burkina, those from the National Office, and the Grace Church team from the US. Part of the team arrived on the same flight we did, and we enjoyed getting to know them a bit. There will be a total of 120 people at the conference.
Pray for a wonderful time of renewal and refreshing for all coming to the conference and that our group will be a witness to the hotel staff.
Pray for Jaynee as she works on the final details of Africa’s budget draft to be submitted this month. There is still a lot to do before the deadline.
Pray for Caleb as school starts back up on April 15th. Pray for endurance and a strong finish to his freshman year.
Pray that we can stay caught up with our work during the conference.
Thank you so much for partnering with us in our work here!
Love,
Stan, Jaynee and Caleb
This month we will be introducing some of the work of Augustine of Hippo. He was a 5th-century theologian and pastor. Much of what we understand about Christianity as Evangelical Protestants in 2024 is still owed to much of what Augustine wrote.
We will be reading a helpful introduction and accessible book called "On the Road with Saint Augustine: A Real-World Spirituality for Restless Hearts" by James K.A. Smith. It details Augustine's life and his understanding of a life with God.
