THE WORD IS OUT: AMLE 2025 WILL BE IN INDIANAPOLIS!

AMLE has now announced that the 2025 national conference will be in Indianapolis on November 6-8! While that is more than 3 years away, it's never too early to start thinking about what you would like to learn, what you would like to share, and what you think others should know about our state and our schools. When the conference was here in 2009, the governor even declared that Friday "Middle Level Education Day, and middle schools/junior highs were allowed to count it as a school day if their staff registered for the conference. While AMLE is concentrated on conferences before that, you can let IMLEA know if you would like to be involved; there were several committees that included Indiana teachers.

Special Olympics Indiana, working with the IASP, is pleased to announce the availability of a FREE book set of Carl Erskine's The Parallel to every school in Indiana.

The Parallel documents how being a teammate of Jackie Robinson and father to Special Olympics athlete Jimmy Erskine were parallels in Carl's life. It contains valuable stories that remain relevant in 2022 and can be used for a variety of classroom purposes.

You can order your book set by completing this brief Google Form no later than May 15, 2022. Book sets will be shipped to arrive at schools during the first week of August, in time for the 2022-2023 school year.
Sets will include 36 copies of The Parallel, a poster, and an instruction sheet explaining how teachers can access the full online library of lessons and activities in the Erskine Personal Impact Curriculum (EPIC).

The books and EPIC curriculum are in conjunction with a new film by Ted Green that will be released in the fall, "The Best We’ve Got: The Carl Erskine Story."

Plainfield Holds Middle School Unified Track Meet

Plainfield hosted a Unified Track Meet on April 19 that also included Franklin and Brownsburg East & West Middle Schools. Greenfield Central will be hosting a district meet for K-8 on Monday, May 16th. If you have any questions about holding one for your middle school/grades, feel free to contact Tori Batson; we can also connect you with the hosts of the meets. Champions Together is more than just special events; they are the culmination of a process of inclusion and friendship.

Spring Webinar Series Concludes with IMLEA Administrators & Job Search Tips

The Bayh College of Education at Indiana State hosted a series of webinars this spring for their preservice teachers that wrapped up this week with job search tips.

Apply for a Free Microcontroller Kit

Thanks to the support of Infosys Foundation USA, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is mailing qualified educators a free kit of materials to participate in a free online course called ‘Design, build, and code a rover with Raspberry Pi Pico’. This offer is available to 1,000 US-based K–12 public or charter school teachers on a first-come, first-served basis. To claim your kit, create a free account on Pathfinders Online Institute and start the course. On the first page of the course, there are instructions on how to apply.

Speaking of Infosys...

While the in-person sessions in Bloomington are now closed, K-12 teachers can also apply for 14 different virtual institutes that will be held at various times from May-August. You must first create an account or log in at this link. It includes such things as coding, robotics, and computational thinking.

APPLICation Open to JOIN IDOE'S ADOLESCENT LITERACY COMMITTEE

The Office of Teaching and Learning has an Educator Literacy Survey now through May 13. The online form also has a place for ELA and literacy educators to volunteer for an Adolescent Literacy Steering Committee that will meet this summer to determine best practices to help students in grades 6-12 become proficient readers. Contact the Office of Teaching and Learning/Digital Learning for questions.

Fun Art Project: Happy Little Painters

These Bob Ross-inspired paintings were on display in the library at Raymond Park Middle School in Warren Township in Indianapolis. Students of art teacher Lauren Fennelly did a great job!
