A Night to Remember: Honoring Our Summa Cum Laude Seniors
Last night, we proudly recognized ten exceptional seniors who achieved the highest academic honor—Summa Cum Laude—at the Superintendent's Summa Cum Laude Banquet, held at the elegant Country Club of York. This prestigious event celebrated the students' hard work, dedication, and academic excellence throughout their high school careers having a cumulative GPA of 98 or higher.
Joined by proud parents, teachers, school administrators, and members of the school board, the honored students were each recognized individually during the banquet. A special highlight of the evening was the tradition in which each student selected a teacher who had significantly impacted their academic journey. These educators spoke personally about the student, sharing heartfelt stories and highlighting their accomplishments, character, and growth.
In recognition of their outstanding achievement, each Summa Cum Laude honoree received a commemorative certificate, a leather writing journal embossed with the District crest and their initials, a pen engraved with their initials, and a single rose.
Superintendent Dr. Todd Davies commended the students not only for their academic success but also for their leadership, integrity, and commitment to excellence.
These students have exemplified what it means to strive for greatness in all they do. We are incredibly proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing the impact they will make in the world.

8th Grade Academic Awards
West York Area Middle School proudly celebrated academic excellence at the annual 8th Grade Academic Awards Banquet, held to recognize the top 15 students in the graduating class. Surrounded by family, staff, and school leadership, these outstanding students were honored for their exceptional academic performance, dedication, and commitment to learning.
The evening featured heartfelt remarks from school administrators, a dinner reception, and individual recognition of each honoree. Certificates and awards were presented to acknowledge the students’ achievements. The banquet is more than just a celebration of grades—it's a recognition of effort, growth, and the foundation these students are building for high school and beyond.
Congratulations to the following students for their academic excellence and for setting a high standard for their peers. We look forward to seeing all you will accomplish at West York Area High School and beyond!
Honorees: Lia Cristofoletti, Emma Fochtman, Ryland Lasher, Delaney McGlynn, Savannah Morgan, Camden Plappert, Autumn Poe, Peyton Ream, Eden Reinoso, Caley Richards, Lena Smith, Aubrielle St. Jacques, Kaden Strausbaugh, Nathan Street, and Eliezer Vega-Ramos. HOPE in Action: West York Students Shine a Light on Mental Health
Each year, students at West York Area High School look forward to the annual HOPE Day. Although the day is filled with fun activities, food trucks and creative events, the day means so much more to those involved. “We get to have a positive impact on a variety of people, in ways we might never know,” said Hope Club member Brianna Tabasko.
The “H.O.P.E” in Hope Day stands for Hold on Pain Ends – the motto for HOPE Club– which raises awareness about mental health, and seeks to help those struggling with mental health. In the week leading up to HOPE Day, the morning announcements included PSAs on mental health and suicide prevention. On HOPE Day itself, the morning announcements were devoted entirely to interviews with students or staff who shared strategies for attending to one’s mental health or sharing their own challenges.
After the announcements, activities such as Cupcake Wars, dodgeball, face painting, bracelet making, board games, and movie watching were available and made the dreary, rainy day better. Students could help themselves to free positivity stickers, talk to teachers and friends, and write caring messages in each other’s yearbooks. Students expressed that this day lets those struggling with mental health get the help they need, even if they don’t get it outside of school.
It’s safe to say that the actions of the many student and teacher volunteers that worked to put HOPE Day together made a difference in their community, showing how everyone can have a positive impact on those around them while having fun.
A Flutter of Discovery: First Graders Release Their Butterflies
Engineering in Action: Fourth Graders Rise to the Egg Drop Challenge
Fourth grade students in Ms. Marsha Yanick's class at Trimmer Elementary recently took on an exciting STEM challenge: the Egg Drop Experiment! Working in pairs, students put their problem-solving skills to the test by designing and building devices to protect a raw egg from a high fall.
Combining principles of science and engineering, each team carefully considered materials, force, and impact in their designs. The classroom buzzed with creativity and collaboration as students tested ideas, made adjustments, and eagerly awaited the final drop.
When the moment of truth arrived, cheers and gasps filled the air as eggs were released—some surviving uncracked, others not so lucky. But win or lose, every student walked away with a deeper understanding of physics, design, and the power of teamwork. It was a fun, messy, and memorable way to bring STEM learning to life!
Lincolnway Readers Go the Extra Mile—and Earn a Donut Delight!
Students at Lincolnway Elementary completed a “Do-nut Forget to Read" reading incentive. They had to read 100 extra minutes above and beyond their reading homework . They got to celebrate with a read aloud, a bingo game, a donut snack, and a book to take home!
A Very Special Surprise Visitor!
Ms. Kelsey Sersen and her daughter, Luna, surprised her students at Lincolnway Elementary with a visit after not seeing them since the middle of March! They enjoyed cookies and ice cream together while watching a video recap of the memories made this school year. From classroom parties to field trips to every day lessons, they had an incredible year growing and laughing with each other. She wishes her third graders the very best at Trimmer Elementary next fall and tells them to stay kind, curious, and confident!
Making Music Matter: West York Recognized for Excellence in Music Education
The West York Area School District has once again been recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education by The NAMM Foundation (National Association of Music Merchants). This prestigious national designation honors districts for their exceptional commitment to and support of music education.
The Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to school districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing access to high-quality music education for all students. Each year, two awards are given: the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) for school districts and the Support Music Merit Award (SMMA) for individual school sites. These awards recognize excellence in music education across public, private, charter, and parochial K–12 schools throughout the United States.
More than 1,000 school districts and individual schools were recognized this year, and we are proud to be counted among them. This marks the fourth year West York has received the BCME honor — a testament to the strength of our music program and the dedication of our educators and community.
Congratulations, Bulldogs!
Our music program continues to inspire, engage, and thrive!
A heartfelt thank you to our Board of Directors, Leadership Team, and the outstanding music educators, band directors, and choral director who make this recognition possible.

Help Support the Hershey Ronald McDonald House – Collect Can Tabs!
Does your family drink soda or other canned beverages? Do you use soup or other foods with metal pull tabs? Throughout April and May, the Middle School is collecting can tabs to support the Hershey Ronald McDonald House.
This marks the seventh year our school has participated in this initiative! The Ronald McDonald House provides a comforting place for families to stay while their child receives medical care. The collected can tabs are recycled to help fund this vital service for families in need.
Please save the tabs from soda cans, soup cans, and other pull-tab containers and drop them off at the Middle School by the last day of school, May 30th.
For any questions, contact our Middle School Reading Specialist, Ms. Jill Raudensky, via email at jeraudensky@wyasd.org. Thank you for your support!
