Friday Message
I don't know about you, but my entire outlook changes when daylight starts to trickle past 6PM. Spring time is definitely approaching, and Magnolia West is about a week away from being in full swing for our busiest time of year. Good luck to our swimmers who are heading to the Regional Swim meet in College Station today. Good luck to Girl's Basketball as they travel to Caldwell next Tuesday for their first round playoff game. We have many other activities going on as well. Please check our calendar below.
I attended a meeting this week where I received some interesting data that I want to share with you. If a student is chronically absent, they are 17.94% more likely to fail English, 23.5% more likely to fail Math, 17.59% more likely to fail Science, 17.14% more likely to fail Social Studies, and 30.33% more likely to fail their World Language course. Please keep sending the message to your student that attendance matters.
Reminders/Notifications:
1) We will have a sendoff for our girls basketball team at 1:30PM on Tuesday in the back parking lot behind the auditorium. Tuesday is a student holiday, but we want to make sure our girls know how much we appreciate them. Feel free to come support them on their way out of town.
2) Please check the information for "On Ramps" below.
3) It is my understanding that Old Hockley road will be closed at some point in the future. I have given up on predicting the date because it keeps changing, but please know that could impact some of you.
4) All students (9th -12th) begin this semester eligible for spring final exam exemptions. One of the major components for retaining eligibility is attendance. Students can have no more than 3 absences. Please encourage your student to work diligently to maintain their exemption status as we progress through the semester.
5) Please check the "Perfect Attendance" incentive below.
6) If your student is looking for scholarship opportunities, Ms. Cabello, Ms. John, and Ms. Kenjura are dedicated to helping them through that process. Please encourage your child to visit them in The Zone.
You can reach me anytime at jmorley@magnoliaisd.org
Thank you,

National Assessment of Educational Progress
What is NAEP?
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), often called The Nation’s Report Card, is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students in public and private schools in the United States know and are able to do in various subjects. Since 1969, NAEP has been a common measure of student achievement across the country in math, reading, science, and many other subjects. Depending on the assessment, NAEP report cards provide
national, state, and some district-level results, as well as results for different demographic groups.
NAEP is a congressionally mandated project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), located within the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences.
NAEP data are also used in special studies conducted by NCES. These have included comparisons of proficiency standards across state assessments; insights from high school transcripts,
including courses taken and credits earned; and in-depth looks at how different demographic groups perform across different types of schools.
