The Riverwalk Roar: March, 2nd 2025
A Note from Dr. Compton
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope everyone had a great week and a wonderful, relaxing weekend. As many of you have heard, my family and I hosted an exchange student last year from Spain. Her name is María, and she came back last Tuesday to spend the week with us. She heads back home this Tuesday, so we spent the weekend reconnecting and doing all the things she enjoyed while she was here in the States last year. It’s been such a joy having her back with us, even if just for a short visit.
As we transition into March, I recently learned that it’s National Reading Month. I guess I never really put two and two together — National Reading Month and Read Across America Week. We’re kicking off the month by celebrating Read Across America Week in our elementary school. Below you’ll find a graphic outlining the fun daily themes and activities our elementary students will participate in.
In addition to encouraging a love for reading, Read Across America Week (along with National Reading Month) helps students build vocabulary, strengthen comprehension, and develop critical thinking skills. You can support this at home by encouraging your child to spend a few extra minutes reading each day — whether it’s diving into a favorite book, starting a new series, or reading aloud together as a family. Ask them about what they’re reading, have them predict what might happen next, or let them read to a sibling or even a pet!
At home, I see firsthand how different every reader can be. I have two daughters — one who loves to read novels and one who doesn’t. For the less enthusiastic one, we encourage reading through graphic novels and audiobooks. It’s been a great way to get her engaged with stories in a format that works for her, and it’s a good reminder that reading comes in many forms — books, comics, magazines, recipes, and even game instructions. The important thing is helping them find something they enjoy because every minute spent reading helps build confidence and skills that will benefit them for years to come.
Let’s make it a great week, Pride, and as always, thank you for your support and for being such an important part of our school community!
In Pride and Purpose,

This past Monday our 6-9th grade students were finally able to step foot into their new classrooms in our almost 100% completed upper school campus. They were greeted by our Riverwalk Cheerleaders, Rivers the Lion, and our High School band. All spirits were high and excited as students found their way to their new rooms and walked the spacious, mouse free, halls. The Mods have served us well but we are so thankful we are able to have this new facility!
March Staff Members of the Month!
We would like to give a HUGE shout out to our March Staff Members of the Month. These 3 inspirational individuals are well deserving of the accolade. They go above and beyond and give selflessly to our students, their families, and their fellow staff members. Thank you for doing what you do and congratulations!
