Zum to take over KCPS student transportation next school year
KCPS families,
We are excited to share that KCPS has reached an agreement for Zum to take over student transportation starting next school year.
Zum is a modern, tech-forward student transportation company that will offer safe & reliable services to our students & families. Through Zum, KCPS students, families, drivers and school administrators will receive state-of-the-art service and peace of mind that comes from enhanced safety features, transparency and increased technology.
Zum's buses prioritize advanced safety features and family-focused service. Through the Zum app, parents will be able to view a profile of their child's bus driver, along with real-time tracking and notifications about their school bus location, and their child's pickup or dropoff status. Zum also allows administrators to optimize routes and provides staff with real-time data and performance reports.
Additionally, Zum is committed to working with KCPS and key stakeholders to develop a plan to transition the school bus fleet to electric. Zum is the first and only 100-percent carbon neutral student transportation company in the U.S., and through its Net Zero Initiative, the company is leading in electric school bus conversion.
School bus drivers are at the center of Zum’s service. Zum offers higher wages and modern benefits for all drivers and staff, as well as top-of-the-line buses, equipment, and technology to enhance safety and comfort for students and drivers, and make drivers’ day to day jobs easier and more enjoyable. Zum supports its drivers and staff with advanced training and certification programs to ensure they not only meet or exceed all state and federal requirements but also receive extensive ongoing training.

Central High basketball finishes 4th at State, nets several awards!
Our Central High School boys basketball team just finished an incredible run at the Missouri Class 4 State Tournament, notching a few victories, making the semifinals, and finishing 4th overall!
We are incredibly proud of our Blue Eagles and the way the players & coaches comported themselves all season and into the postseason. They showed class on & off the court, along with an immense measure of talent!
But the story doesn't end there for our Blue Eagles. Shortly after the State Tournament, word came down that our team received several recognitions for their hard work during the season, including:
- District Coach of the Year: Coach Michael Gholston, Jr.
- First Team All-District: Tim Wooden, Jr.; Brandon Moore; Darren McHenry
We know the team will be right back here next year, and that all of the players and coaches will continue to cultivate success in basketball and in life!
Partnership bring 1,000 KCPS 4th graders on nature field trips!

3DE students highlighted on KSHB-41 News for Box Tops business proposals
KCPS students from different backgrounds & cultures---while sporting different thoughts and ideas---converged on Northeast High School's Media Center last week, all driven to provide innovative solutions to real-world issues.
As a microcosm of this effort, these students were given a task: To create a proposal in conjunction with Box Tops For Education that highlights an educational issue and uses the initiative to fulfill a need while addressing the issue.
The project was part of the 3DE program, a national initiative that seeks to give high school students hands-on experience addressing real-world issues. While the program spans schools across the country, Northeast High School's 3DE program is the only one of its kind in Missouri.
KSHB-41 News was on-hand for the 3DE/Box Tops event last week. Click here to read their story and watch the accompanying video.
