The District Dispatch #4 March 2, 2025
A monthly summary of the great work happening in the Tillamook School District!
Dear Families and Community Members,
As winter fades and spring emerges, we are reminded of the cycles of growth and renewal all around us. The days grow longer, the air a little warmer, and new energy fills our schools. As seasons change, so does our education journey—each phase brings new opportunities to support student learning and success.
With the excitement of spring, it’s essential to remain focused on the work that matters most—ensuring high levels of learning for ALL students. This requires the dedication of every employee, from teachers and instructional aides to custodians, office staff, and administrators. Each of us plays a vital role in creating an environment where students can thrive.
Our Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative teams remain at the heart of this work. By coming together to analyze student data, refine instructional strategies, and support one another, we strengthen our collective ability to meet student needs. This teamwork drives progress and ensures that every child receives the education they deserve.
As we move through this season of renewal, let’s embrace the opportunity to grow, improve, and stay committed to our shared mission. Focusing on student learning and working together can make a lasting impact—one student at a time.
Warm regards,
Matt Ellis
Superintendent
2025 Charity Drive - Celebrating the Generosity and Spirit of Tillamook
Tillamook High School students once again demonstrated the power of community, generosity, and teamwork during the 72nd annual Charity Drive, raising an incredible $206,756 to support a meaningful cause. This event, a long-standing tradition in our district, continues to highlight the dedication and compassion of our students, staff, and community members.
From February 7-17, students worked tirelessly to organize fundraising events at the high school and throughout the community. The second week of the drive featured some of the most anticipated traditions, including the Charity Drive coronation, the Mr. THS competition, and the always-entertaining Stud Muffin volleyball game. These events raised funds and strengthened the bonds within our school and town.
Special congratulations go to the Junior Class, which led the friendly competition between grade levels for the third consecutive year and contributed an outstanding $83,867.35. Every participating student's efforts reflect a shared commitment to making a difference.
Half the funds raised after expenses will support Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. In contrast, the remaining half will provide scholarships for our seniors and grants for local organizations to be determined later this spring. This year’s success brings the Charity Drive's lifetime total to an astounding $4,603,342—a testament to the unwavering generosity of our community.
To our students, staff, families, and local supporters, thank you for investing in this tradition and in our students' future. Your dedication to service and learning continues to make Tillamook a truly special place.
Celebrating our Classified Partners March 3rd-7th, 2025
In every school, behind every lesson taught, and within every success story, you’ll find the dedicated hands and hearts of our classified employees. They are the ones who keep our schools running smoothly, support our students, and connect our community. This year’s Classified School Employees Week (CEW), March 3-7, 2025, carries a theme that couldn’t be more fitting: "Oregon Classified Educators are the Best in the West."
Here in Tillamook, we know this to be true. Our classified staff are the heartbeat of our schools—the ones who step up no matter the challenge. They calm the wild playgrounds, ensuring student safety and fun. They are the first to saddle up when extra support is needed in classrooms, hallways, and lunchrooms. No one is quicker on the draw when phones ring, schedules shift, or unexpected challenges arise. And when tackling the toughest messes—literal or figurative—they never back down.
But their impact doesn’t stop there. They drive our buses, ensuring students arrive safely at school and home daily. They prepare meals, keeping students nourished and ready to learn. They balance budgets and pore over spreadsheets, ensuring resources are managed efficiently. They maintain our buildings and grounds, creating safe and welcoming spaces for learning. They provide technology support, keeping our systems running smoothly. In every role, they make a difference.
Simply put, our schools could not function without them. From custodians to secretaries, instructional assistants, nutrition staff, IT specialists, and financial professionals, every classified employee plays a vital role in ensuring high levels of learning for all students. Their work is not just appreciated—it is essential.
This week, let’s tip our hats and say “thank you” to the incredible classified staff who give their all every day. Whether with a kind word, a note of appreciation, or a simple gesture of gratitude, let’s ensure they know that they are indeed the Best in the West!
Celebrating a Month of Success in Tillamook Schools
The past month has been a busy and exciting time in the Tillamook School District, filled with athletic victories, artistic performances, academic achievements, and continued learning at the highest levels. Our students have showcased their hard work and dedication in various ways, and we couldn’t be more proud of their efforts!
These experiences—inside and outside the classroom—are essential to a well-rounded education. They help students develop critical life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, creativity, and problem-solving. Athletics teach discipline, resilience, and the power of working toward a common goal. The performing arts foster self-expression, confidence, and the ability to connect with others through music, drama, and storytelling. Academic competitions encourage critical thinking, curiosity, and the pursuit of knowledge beyond traditional coursework.
Providing these opportunities ensures that students have multiple pathways to grow and succeed. Some students find their passion in the field, others on the stage, and others in academics—but all benefit from these activities' challenges, experiences, and personal growth. These moments of success and learning help shape their futures, instilling a love for learning, leadership, and engagement that lasts a lifetime.
As a district, we remain committed to supporting these experiences and ensuring every student can explore their interests, challenge themselves, and celebrate their achievements. We are grateful for the dedication of our coaches, teachers, directors, staff, and families, who make these opportunities possible and continue to encourage our students to reach new heights.
As we move into another month, we encourage students to strive for excellence in athletics, the arts, academics, or their daily learning experiences. The daily hard work, passion, and commitment make Tillamook a truly special place to learn and grow.
