What Are Unified Activities?

We are excited to share about the 2nd year of Westside Community School's Unified Activities initiative.


What is Westside Unified?

Activities designed for the partnering of students with and without an intellectual disability.


What Can I Do?

When your building is hosting a Unified Activity we encourage you to consider volunteering.


Also, you can help in identifying positive peer role models. Work alongside your Special Education Team to partner students that would attend in support of a student with a disability.


All educators are an important part of developing a culture of inclusion.


Who Participates?

Both students with and without a disability. Unified Activities is a program of Special Olympics Nebraska focused on supporting students with intellectual disabilities however all students can participate in the spirit of developing inclusive practices across our schools and community.


When Do Events Happen?

Typically monthly, hosted at the various schools across our district. Information about Unified Activities is sent to schools for inclusion in newsletters and other building communications.

Unified Floor Hockey

Where: Sunset Hills Elementary, 9503 Walnut St, Omaha, NE 68124

When: Jan 11th, 2019 - 11:00am-12:00pm

What: An opportunity for fun, friendship, and hockey skills aimed at partnering peers with and without an intellectual disability.

Help us get kids excited about this event. Print this poster and have kids color and decorate. This could serve as a fun inclusion activity to help develop partner relationships before the event.

What Are Unified Activities?

The Special Olympics Unified Schools Program is a fast-growing initiative that brings students with and without intellectual disabilities together.


As Unified Champion Schools, we partner with Special Olympics Nebraska to implement a three-component strategy focused on Inclusive Sports, Inclusive Youth Leadership, and Whole-School Engagement. These three components bring students with and without intellectual disabilities together to promote a positive school climate, develop physical fitness, prevent bullying, enhance student engagement, and promote student leadership skills.
