TVUSD COMMUNITY CONNECTION

It’s been an exciting two weeks throughout TVUSD! I have had the honor of observing instruction at many sites and remain so proud and impressed by the exceptional learning occurring each day! Instruction on all campuses is top-notch, with students collaborating, making their thinking visible, and thriving with the myriad opportunities and connections provided by our specialists, staff, community partners, and volunteers! Abby Reinke, Rancho, Vintage Hills, Crowne Hill, and Paloma all highlighted technology integration being used when it is the best tool to accomplish the objective. They are also to be commended for the exceptional work they have done to ensure students feel welcomed and loved at all times!

We also “surprised” many employees with the “Employee of the Year” award! This is an extra-special award in TVUSD, as all of our employees are exceptional! For the 2023 official honor, please join us in recognizing these individuals for consistently going above and beyond in their roles, demonstrating exceptional dedication, hard work, and commitment to the students and families of TVUSD. Their contributions have benefited the organization, their colleagues, the community, and most importantly - our students. It is an honor to recognize their achievements! Congratulations!

On Wednesday, January 18th the District held the TVUSD Spelling Bee at Day Middle School. Seventeen schools competed with two participants each, totalling 34 contestants. Volunteers from all three high school ASB teams helped to run and oversee the event, as well as special guests. Amber Lane, Assistant Principal of Great Oak High School, was the Bee Master and Joe Balleweg, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, served as head judge. Other judges included Anna Tapley (Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment), Rafael Loza (Margarita Middle School teacher), and Krystal Fielstra (Assistant Principal on Special Assignment). Elizabeth Areiza, District Librarian, served as the arbitrator/recorder.

After a total of nine rounds, Ryan Scott, 7th grader at Gardner Middle School (site coordinator Josefine Petite), won with the word vermicide in round 8 and arsenic in round nine. In second place and our alternate is Jack Callahan, 8th grader at Bella Vista Middle School (site coordinator Dana Hayes).

Ryan will go on to compete at the RCOE Spelling Bee on March 23rd in Moreno Valley. If he finals there, he will go on to the Scripps National Bee at the end of May in Maryland. If he cannot attend, then Jack will take his place. Congratulations!
