Town Challenge at Weathersfield School Saturday, March 22nd at 7:00 PM
Peter Pan T-Shirt Sales
Our t-shirts are designed and ready to be ordered! I have added the link to our school store at the bottom of this email. This year, they have added a custom line to add to the back of the shirts. With that being said, we ask that any custom names on the back are limited to "Cast", "Crew", or their character's name ("Peter Pan", etc).
Thanks so much for all the ways you support our program!
Town Challenge
SATURDAY, MARCH 22nd AT 7:00 P.M. (Snow date will be March 23rd)
The Weathersfield Proctor Library will have their 11th ANNUAL TOWN CHALLENGE. Local organizations are invited to participate, and we certainly hope you’ll join in the fun. The trivia topics will cover Weathersfield History, Geography, Spelling, Current Events/Sports, Literature and Music.
As you know, in addition to this being an exciting event for the whole community, it is a fundraiser for the Weathersfield Proctor Library. We are hopeful the businesses within our community will join in with donations for this much-anticipated event.
Of course, we also encourage each team member to collect additional support (family members, neighbors and/or friends), and there will be a prize for the team that raises the most money. A few years ago, we also offered door prizes (local products) to members of our audience and will again this year. And don’t forget the coveted prize for the team that displays the most TEAM SPIRIT!
8th Grade Families
Attention Parents/Guardians of 8th Graders
Is your student planning on attending Springfield High School (SHS) in the Fall? On April,8th at 9:30 SHS school counselor, Jason Touchette, will be at Weathersfield to help get your student signed up for their 2025-2026 class schedule. Just send Ms. Cole, WS school counselor, an email to make sure that your child doesn't miss out on meeting with Mr. Touchette.
Host an Exchange Student?
Exciting news, Weathersfield! We are hoping to continue our international exchange student program at the high school for the upcoming school year. We are looking for volunteer host families to choose a student and welcome them into their home for either a semester or the school year. Our biggest roadblock to having a program is lack of volunteers.
Who can host? Host families come in all shapes and sizes; with kids, no kids, or fur kids! Students are chosen by the family to be a good fit for your lifestyle (and they make great older siblings). We have kids with all sorts of interests; animals, reading, sports, or arts. We have kids hoping to learn to crochet this year, or ones that want to learn to cook new dishes. We ask families to provide access to three meals per day, a place to sleep (students can share a bedroom with a host sibling and we can provide bunks if needed) and study, and support navigating their new culture. Program support includes full health insurance, spending money, access to quarterly group trips, school support, and ongoing support of both the student and host family, too.
But a school year is a long time, what if I'm not enjoying this? I hear you, it's a bit intimidating. But, if it's not a good fit for you, we will work to find another host family and move the student. We don't want anyone to sign up for a year of being uncomfortable. But the students are eager to learn and be part of a family. They help out around the house with chores and share aspects of their culture, too. We could even plan to split hosting between two families if needed!
Here are some students still waiting to hear from their future family:
Maialen is a 15 year old girl from Spain who runs cross country, loves to dance and go fishing. Anna from Italy will only be here for a semester, but and she enjoys spending her weekend baking with her family. Ajdin from Bosnia hopes to volunteer while in the US, and he also has an interest in drama and cooking. Sreyoshi from Bangladesh will be a freshman this year, and she loves playing board games with her family, cooking, and learning languages at school. Omar is a 16 year old boy from Egypt who plays basketball and hopes to become a pilot. There are kids from all over the world hoping to study in the US this year: Australia, Belgium and Tanzania to name a few!
If you are able to host, for a semester or the full year, or have additional questions, please reach out to Kimberly at keckhardt08@gmail.com or text at 802-490-0758
