HITEON HIGHLIGHTS NEWSLETTER

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Hiteon Families,
It is hard to believe we have been in school for an entire month. It has been a busy time at school, students have been learning how to be their BEST at Hiteon.
We had our first school assembly on September 25 and our students were introduced to Hiteon’s overarching theme of KINDNESS this year. We want to go back to basics and focus on what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to be kind to others. All staff members are noticing and recognizing when students do something kind as an individual student and/or an entire class. We are recognizing kindness by earning pom-poms. Each class is collecting them and then we are gathering them as a school to earn school-wide incentives. Currently, we are working for a pajama day!

Parent-Teacher Conferences are approaching and we are using the online scheduler called Sign Up Genius to schedule conferences. As a reminder, the official dates for conferences are below:
Wednesday, October 23rd: After School Only (Regular School Day for students)
Thursday, October 24th: All Day (No School for students)
Friday, October 25th: No School
On Thursday, October 10th, your child’s teacher will provide you with a direct link that will let you view the sign-up page. If you have more than one child you will need to sign up for each child separately. Once you receive the link, follow these steps:
- View the Sign-Up Page: The sign-up creator will provide you with a direct link that will let you view the sign-up page.
- Choose the Items you Want: On the sign-up page, click the “Sign Up” button next to the slot in which you wish to sign up for. For equity purposes, PLEASE SIGN UP FOR ONE SLOT ONLY for each child(ren).
- Enter Your Contact Info: You will now see a second page where you can enter your contact info. If you already have an account, you can simply log in. If you are new to the site, you can type in your information. After you complete the form field, click “Sign Up Now” at the bottom of the page.
- Add Event to Your Calendar: The “Thank You” page will display indicating you have successfully completed the steps to sign up. You can click on the calendar icon displayed to add the item to your calendar if you wish.
If you are unable to access the online scheduler, the teachers can provide you with a paper sign-up. We are hoping the online system is efficient and convenient for you to use, but please call the main office if you are having difficulty with sign-ups or have any questions. Mrs. Read-Emslie can be your conference contact person.
Note: Unfortunately, our schedule does not allow us to hold separate conferences for separated families. Please inform the main office if there is a court order that mandates an exception to this policy.
Thank you for participating in the fall conferences!!

Hiteon Scholastic Book Fair
Winter is coming! Time to warm up with a good book! Our fair is near!
Our fair is just around the corner, and we need you to make it great. It will take place in the library and will be open during school and after school, October 14-18.
Every class will have a chance to stop by and create a wish list. You will then be able to come after school with them or shop online at our online store (https://www.scholastic.com/bf/hiteon). Your student can also bring money the day they come in. Your student will go to the book fair during their normal Library day.
New this year is a digital wallet you can set up for your child, if you don't want to send them with cash or checks. Check out our website from home to set it up. A flyer will be sent home Friday, October 4th.
Our goal this year is $10,000. Thank you for helping us get books in the hands of kids.

Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon
The 21st Beaverton Education Foundation Phone-a-thon takes place October 9-17, 2019. This annual dialing tradition provides critical funds that support innovative educational programs for students in the Beaverton community. During the five-fun-filled nights, more than 350 student volunteers make over 30,000 phone calls, dedicating their time, energy and enthusiasm to supporting BEF programs.
Last year, BEF served over 27,000 Beaverton students in grades K-12, funding 124 academic programs or projects. Through this funding from our supporters and community engagement, $390,603 was invested back into our schools.
This year our goal is to fund 130 projects impacting 30,000 students. Together, we will make it happen.
The Phone campaign and the associated mailings are the Foundations largest fundraising activity of the year. Funds raised are reinvested in a wide variety of after and summer school programs for students at all of Beaverton public schools. Please Answer the Call for our students!
