HMS News
Spirit Week!
Greetings from HMS!
Next week, our class advisors have planned a number of fun activities and themes for each day as we approach the Thanksgiving Break.
The graphics below provide a grade-by-grade overview of some of the great things planned for our students and teachers next week.
We hope all of our students choose to participate and show their spirit!
Dismissal Procedure
With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday next week, we understand that many families will be traveling and may need to dismiss their student(s) before the end of the school day.
To help us help you get on the road on time, please follow the dismissal procedure below:
Dismissal Procedure
Send the student in with a note including dismissal time/reason.
Student brings the note to the LMC first thing in the morning and will receive a dismissal pass.
Student gives dismissal pass to teacher at the beginning of block being dismissed
Parent comes into the office to sign student out, student will meet parent in office.
Sending in dismissal notes ahead of time helps us to avoid interrupting classes and will help get you on your way faster. We've even attached a convenient note template, should you need one!
Christmas in the City - Book Drive
Team Great White Sharks will be collecting lightly used or new children’s books (ages 0-14) from 11/18 - 12/6 for the Christmas in the City organization. Christmas in the City helps to provide a Christmas for kids and family members from families living in Boston area shelters. Find out more at their website. Christmas in the City Your student can drop off book donations in their English classes or in the labeled boxes inside the entrance to the school.
That's Debatable!
The Grade Eight US History and Civics classes are conducting their first debate of the year. They are contesting whether the Federalists or the Anti-Federalists were correct regarding the ratification of the Constitution in 1787.
Please ask your eight grader which side they are on and why!.
Ms. Corcoran's ELA Class recently worked with Mrs. Zorella to complete a character study and dramatization of our One Book, One School novel, A Wish in the Dark. We were very impressed with their efforts!
Meanwhile, our grade eight students reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn created "real estate listings" for tenements, based on descriptions from the novel.
Private School Applications
If you are planning to apply to private schools for next school year, please review the attached paperwork describing the process and necessary paperwork.
Counselors are happy to accommodate these requests, and we ask that you give at least 3 weeks notice before any deadlines.
Before submitting any electronic requests, please review and fill out the attached forms.
Thank you!
These math problems were too complex to be solved while sitting at a desk!
Mrs. Burnaby's Math Enrichment students work at Problem Solving Stations throughout their classroom.
