CAREER ADVISOR CORNER
November was National Career Development Month. The 8th graders received Way To Be 2023, a career magazine published by the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education. During homerooms, students watched a slideshow about the difference between a job and a career and several Career Cluster topics. They also learned about some of the EMS staff’s first jobs. You might also talk about your family members' first jobs.
In addition, the 8th graders completed a Naviance lesson on Working through Stress. We talked about what stress is, how we may react to it, and what strategies might help us overcome acute stress. Some strategies included taking deep breaths, stepping away from the situation, focusing on today, moving around, or enjoying nature. Everyone feels stress, so learning strategies to handle it appropriately will help them throughout their academic and work life.
