SJG Daily Update 5/15/2020 Edition

We missed our annual Senior Tea for Hearle village this year but we wanted to keep it going so we are asking that all 5th and 2nd grade students create a card for a senior. The cards should say things like hope you are doing well accompanied with some nice comments such as we missed the senior tea and can't wait to do it next year. We ask that there are no last names of students put on the cards.

There is a box for collection outside of SJG under the front overhang that is marked Hearle Village. It will be left there until Monday night.

Noah Smid in Mrs. Dowd's class has seen a need and wants to address it. He is collecting food for the food pantry in town. The Smid Family is asking that donations be dropped off at their house, 51 Mandeville Avenue. There will be a collection box on the front steps so people can drop off without having contact thus practicing social distancing. We are proud of Noah!

We all know that we missed our Jump Rope for Heart Day in March. Well we can't let that be the case! Our students worked very hard to learn skills for the event so we have to put those skills to use! Mr. Larranaga is putting together a Virtual Jump Rope for Heart Day on Friday, May 22, 2020. We will be putting together a video of skills, activities, and fun for everyone to follow. We want everyone to take videos and pictures so that we can put them on the website, in the newsletter, and on twitter. It is going to be a fun day and we will be supporting a great cause, Heart Health!

Please join us and create an inspirational rock for our Chilton Medical healthcare heroes. Your rock will be delivered to Chilton as part of our district's message of support and thanks. Our hope is that together we can develop a wellness garden filled with inspirational messages for all to enjoy.

Rocks are available for pickup at Pequannock Township High School during the designated days and times below or feel free to find your own!

Tuesday 9:00 - 11:00 am (May 12th)

Wednesday 2:00 - 4:00 pm ( May 13th)

Thursday 10:00 - 12:00 pm ( May 14th)

Friday 9:00 - 11:00 am ( May 15th)

Monday 8:00 - 10:00 am ( May 18th)

A security guard will facilitate this pickup to ensure proper social distancing. Pickup will be held in the front gym parking lot. When you enter the lot a security guard will direct you to a coned area where you will wait your turn to exit your vehicle and proceed to a table that is setup near the maintenance department. Mr. Lucas will monitor the table for safety and efficiency.

We ask all of you to paint your rock and include an inspirational message at your home. Any outdoor paint, permanent marker or nail polish can be used.

We will be sending dropoff dates/times to collect the painted rocks beginning the week of May 25th. Days and times will be forthcoming. All rocks will be given a protective top coat of sealer at the high school prior to being delivered to Chilton Medical Center.

The Pequannock Township Education Foundation (PTEF) is sponsoring the Staff & Teacher Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) program this year. The deadline has been extended to 5/15.

Forms that can be submitted to peqedfund@gmail.com recognize teachers and staff members are available on the SJG website and have been emailed to everyone this morning. See the flyer for more information.

Being unable to see friends or family, and not having the ability to participate in regular activities is stressful. People working during these times is also stressful as is not working. Teaching our kids at home is stressful. If the stress is becoming a lot, we have two good resources below for parents and we have other resources too. Don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Im, Mrs. Vacca, or I as well.

This is a service that was shared with us. It is a support group for parents. Give it a look!
