What Has Been Happening on the Third Floor?
Mrs. Abgarian's students are continuing to work diligently on their end of the year math assessments. They will end the year by beginning to prepare for the 7th grade curriculum. Students will be working closely with integers, focusing mainly on adding and subtracting!Mrs. Abgarian is beyond proud of all of her students this year and the progress they have made!
Mrs. Davenport's students are working on a project involving budgeting. They are enjoying putting together a lunch menu for the week, choosing from a list of possible food items and drinks. The first task has them spending as much money as they want to for lunch with no limitations on the number of items they can choose from. Next week they will have to tighten up their belts and stay within a budget. The last task, they will still have to stay within their budget, but also save to buy something very special to them. This is where they will see how math applies to everyday life.
In Mr. Pearson's Earth Science Class, students have taken a journey through our solar system. They began by studying our Sun, a medium-sized star and the object which sits at the center of our Solar System. Next, they studied our "Terrestrial", or "Rock Planets" and their characteristics. A major point of emphasis was discussing why Earth is such a unique "Rock Planet, and why it is distinctly different from all the other "Rock Planets" in our solar system. Finally, they concluded our solar system by studying the "Giant Gas Planets" and their characteristic, planets that are situated outside of an asteroid belt which separates both the "Rock" and "Gas" planets. An additional component of this unit permitted students a unique opportunity to study "Solar and Lunar Eclipses" and the effects our Moon has on our planet, and, in particular, ocean tides.
Mrs. Farley's and Mr. Henry's ELA Classes are working hard on finishing up the end of the year benchmarks showing how much we have grown this year and visiting the library often for books to read. They are working on finishing their final novel Blood on the River. Keep a look out for Summer Reading information.
Ms. Freeman-Petersen's Social Studies classes are showing their knowledge of ancient Greece. Students are doing this by completing our A-Z of ancient Greece slideshow project.
Final Visit From CALC in PE Classes
Mrs. Fogg's Chicks Hatched
Mrs. Fogg has housed an incubator of baby chicks from the 4H program in her classroom for the last few weeks. The chicks began hatching over Mother's Day weekend, and her students had the delight of taking care of and snuggling with the new additions over the week. The chicks were returned to 4H on Friday, but Mrs. Fogg's students will have lasting memories of this awesome experience.
Spring Literacy Family Engagement Night
Last Thursday night, we hosted our Spring Bingo Night. Families came for a night of fin, and Mrs. D'Angelo shared valuable resources for Summer reading with them. A great time was had by all who attended.
