We hope you had an enjoyable holiday break! Welcome back and get ready - the next few months go by pretty quickly!

**Please note the change to the Whole Team practice time through January**

On days where we cheer at girls' basketball games, we understand your cheerleader has a very busy night. While she is not playing or warming up, we would like our cheerleaders to come and sit with the team and spirit where appropriate. They do not need to worry about changing into their cheer uniform to do this, but should pack their poms so they can spirit using them.

In addition, after playing their own basketball game, your cheerleader is expected to stay at the games with the cheerleaders until the end of the evening. It is imperative that they join the cheerleaders to help them cheer. Of course, this does not apply if your cheerleader plays in the last game of the night. But, otherwise, this policy will apply to them.

This is not intended to keep your cheerleader from bonding with their basketball team or preparing for their game, but instead is a way for them to participate in both activities. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Cheer and mascot tryouts for the upcoming year are just around the corner! Please keep the following dates in mind if your cheerleader is interested:

2/11/20 Cheer Tryout Interest Meeting (mandatory for athlete and 1 parent) 5:30 - 6:30

3/2/20 Cheer Tryout Clinic (mandatory) Time TBD

3/3/20 Cheer Tryout Clinic (mandatory) Time TBD

3/4/20 Cheer Tryout Clinic (mandatory) Time TBD

3/6/20 Cheer Tryouts - Results will be posted on the GMS Cheer website by 10:00 pm

Required cheer tryout paperwork will be available the week of Cheer Tryout Interest Meeting.

As soon as we receive the dates for tryouts, clinics and tumbling certifications from CHHS and GHS, we will pass those along. In the meantime, all athletes interested in cheering in high school should be stretching everyday as well as practicing their jumps, running tumbling and standing tumbling.

In general, candidates must be able to SAFELY demonstrate the following tumbling at certifications to be certified to tryout for a particular team:

JV Team - Standing back handspring; Running round off, back tuck

Game Day Team (non-tumbling team) - No tumbling requirement

The team is looking good! They are so supportive, flexible and encouraging to each other. We know this is going to be an amazing competition season for them!

GHS Mustang Invitational

The comp team will participate in the GHS Mustang Invitational on January 11 at CTMS. This will be a great opportunity for the girls to perform in front a crowd before NCA.

Practice Date/Time Changes

Please review the practice schedule above through February 1 and let us know if your cheerleader has conflicts ASAP. We want to maximize practice time and it is important that we have the whole team at practice.

Attendance

We have had quite a few unplanned/unexcused absences from practice lately and honestly, it is hindering our team from reaching their potential. It is imperative that every team member is in attendance for the entire practice from now until February 1 to ensure we have the greatest chance for success.

With a team this small, we cannot afford to have continued absences. Please keep in mind that when one person is missing, at least 1 of our 3 stunt groups cannot practice and this is not productive for the team.
