The Austin Buzz April 2025
Mary B. Austin Elementary
The Buzz and Mary B.
Quarter 4 is off to a great start! Just a reminder, students in 3rd through 5th grade are taking the State Test (ACAP) during April. So, please make sure that your child arrives at school by 8:15 a.m. to ensure that students can complete the test sessions with their class. Whole group testing is complete around 10:40 a.m. and small group testing continues to 2:15 p.m. daily.
Literacy Tip
Create a quiet, special place in your home for your child to read, write and draw. Keep books and other reading materials where your child can easily reach them.
Numeracy Tip
Practice basic math facts: Practice basic math facts with flashcards and games. Knowing the basic facts allows children to focus more on problem-solving than computation.
Parking Reminder
During school events, please be mindful and do not block the residents' driveways or mailboxes. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
Dismissal Reminder
Please make sure your carpool tag is displayed daily. This is to ensure the safety of all students. If your carpool number is not displayed, you will be directed to park, come into the office and show ID.

Student Council Presents: Birthday in a Box
Help us bring joy to children in need by donating supplies for a special birthday celebration!
Our Student Council is thrilled to partner with Box of Balloons, an organization that creates birthday boxes for children (ages 1-12) in foster care or experiencing homelessness. Box of Balloons partners with local groups like Dumas Wesley Center, Wilmer Hall, the Child Advocacy Center, and Fostering the Gulf Coast.
We need your help to make these boxes special!
Each grade level will sponsor a complete party box, with each classroom contributing different items. Be on the lookout for information coming from your child's teacher.
❤ Thank You for Your Support! ❤
Your generosity will help make a child's birthday extra special. Let’s work together to spread joy in our community
Testing Tips for Parents
2. On the morning of the test, your child needs to get up in plenty of time so he/she won't feel rushed.
3. Feed your child a good breakfast. Research shows that children do better on tests if they have had a good breakfast.
4. Do as much as you can to make your child feel comfortable. Try not to say things to make him/her feel more nervous.
5. Reassure your child that no matter the outcome of the test you will still love him/her. Encourage them to simply do their best.
6. Take an active role in your child's education throughout the school year. Let your child know you are interested in his/her learning by taking part in the entire process.
Testing Schedule
3rd Grade Whole Group Testing: April 1-3, April 7-8
4th Grade Whole Group Testing: April 1-3, April 7-8
5th Grade Whole Group Testing: April 1-3, April 7-8

Spring Into Kindness Week - April 14-18
Mary B. Austin’s Peer Helpers are excited to present Spring into Kindness Week, a special week dedicated to spreading kindness across our school! Through simple daily activities, students will be encouraged to show kindness in their words and actions, helping to create a more positive and supportive school community.
Here’s what we have planned:
🔗 Monday – "Linked by Kindness!" Students will add their names to a schoolwide kindness chain to show that we’re all connected through kindness.
🐝 Tuesday – "Buzzing with Kindness!" Students will take on a kindness challenge, aiming to complete at least three kind acts throughout the day.
🏷️ Wednesday – "Kindness Sticks with Us!" Students will receive kindness stickers and can "earn" more by spreading kindness to others.
✋ Thursday – "High Five for Kindness!" (National High Five Day) Students will celebrate kindness by giving high fives and sharing kind words.
🌸 Friday – "Let Kindness Bloom!" Students and staff are encouraged to wear pastel or bright spring colors as we reflect on our week of kindness.
We encourage families to talk with their children about kindness and find ways to "Spring into Kindness" at home, too! Thank you for your support in making Mary B. Austin a kind and welcoming place for all. 💙❤️🐝
