This is Mr. Hawkins, Principal of Viers Mill Elementary School (VMES), with our weekly Sunday message. We have exciting events coming up to promote a lifelong love of reading! Please read through our message below with details about the PTA Fall Scholastic Book Fair, our Literacy Night on October 17th, and more! Please note that our Picture Day was moved to Wednesday, October 30. Finally, please save the date of Monday, November 11 for our Open House event where parents/caregivers can come to our school to visit their child's classroom to see teaching and learning in action! Specific times (by grade level) will be shared with our school community soon!

Our amazing PTA has organized another fun Book Fair for our students in our Media Center! The Book Fair will be open throughout this week. Please refer to the schedule below:

• Monday, October 14: 9:00-3:25
• Tuesday, October 15: 9:00-6:00
• Wednesday, October 16: 9:00-6:00
• Thursday, October 17: 9:00-7:30 (extended hours for Literacy Night)
• Friday, October 18: No School (Book Fair is closed)
• Saturday, October 19: 9:00-Noon

Join us on Thursday, October 17 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. for Literacy Night! Our staff will be leading engaging literacy activities for our students and families. Have a memorable time while also learning how to support your child with reading at home! Activities will take place between 6:00-7:00 p.m., and the Book Fair will be open until 7:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!

MCPS is seeking feedback from students, families, staff, and community members on different calendar options for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years.
