SCW Student and Parent Updates
February 26, 2024
Good afternoon, Warriors!
What a weekend for Warriors Activities!
- Friday night kicked off with a fantastic Senior Night celebration bookended by two varsity basketball wins as both the boys and girls teams defeated Northpoint to end the regular season before starting district play this week.
- Unfortunately, we were missing the best band in St. Charles Friday night, but that was only because they were busy racking up the hardware at the Rolling Meadows Jazz Festival! Their ensemble won Class 1A with a 91.3, combo placed 2nd with a 94, and Harrison Hendrickson was awarded "Outstanding Soloist!"
- We were also missing our Dance and Drill team who was in Kansas City preparing for their State Competition where they finished 4th Overall in the Division 2, 1st in Precision Dance, 3rd in Mix Routine, received 4 Academic All Star Awards, and were recognized for having the highest overall GPA in all of Division 2! (You have one more chance to see them in action at this year's Variety Show--See below for more information!)
Let's keep this rolling into this week, Warriors as we move toward the end of the Winter Season and open up the Spring Season!
I would also like to recognize the efforts of our BSU students and Mrs. Van Houten in organizing this year's BSU assembly. While it is unfortunate that they were thrown a significant curve ball right before the start of the assembly with the cancellation of their guest performers, I appreciate their dedication and efforts to plan this year's celebration. Thank you again!
Also, Parent/Teacher Conferences are this week! Be sure to sign up for times to meet with your child's teachers. Our conference schedule is in person again, but if you require a virtual conference please follow the directions within PTCFast.com so that we can make the appropriate accommodation. If you have any questions regarding conferences, please be sure to reach out to Mr. Williamson at the email listed below.
Make it a Great Week, Warriors!
Black History Month
Black History Month 2024 Theme: African Americans and the Arts
"When Carter G. Woodson established Negro History week in 1926, he realized the importance of providing a theme to focus the attention of the public. The intention has never been to dictate or limit the exploration of the Black experience, but to bring to the public’s attention important developments that merit emphasis" (Association for the Study of African American Life and History).
Below are some links that may be useful in learning more about this year's celebration as well as the evolution of our nation's view, recognition, and celebration of Black History throughout the years.

Attention Freshmen Parents and Guardians: 2024-2025 Irish Exchange Opportunity
Attention freshmen parents and guardians: Are you interested in hosting an Irish student next fall? Our Sister Cities in Ireland have a number of students wanting to come to the United States for about 10 days in October. Host family students have priority to go on the exchange to Ireland over spring break. By hosting an exchange student, students can build a friendship for life and experience the culture and beauty of Ireland. If interested, please click the link below to learn more and/or apply to be a host. If you have any additional questions, please contact Julie Spies at jspies@stcharlessd.org

Chromebook Reminders
As a reminder, students should have their district issued Chromebook (or similar device) charged and ready for each school day. While the library does have a limited number of Chromebooks available in the event that a student has an issue with their Chromebook or forgot theirs at home, these Chromebooks are limited. Additionally, if a student checks out a Chromebook from the library, that Chromebook should be returned by the end of that school day. Chromebooks checked out from the library should not go home with students without prior approval from Ms. Gates.
Calendar Change for April 8th
As the district recently communicated, a revision has occurred to the calendar on April 8th, 2024 due to the solar eclipse. This change has been made primarily to ensure the safety of our students, as the timing of the eclipse coincides with our regular afternoon dismissal period. For SCW, this means our Early-Out will move from Wednesday, April 10th to Monday, April 8th. All students will be released at 1:20 p.m. on April 8th. We will have regular school days on Tuesday, April 9th through Friday, April 12th. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Attention All Students/Parents: Varsity Tutors Access--New Resource Available
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has facilitated comprehensive access to Varsity Tutors for all districts within the state. This invaluable educational resource is available to students throughout the 2024-25 school year. Access is seamlessly provided through individual student accounts linked to Clever (https://clever.com/in/stcharlessd), ensuring a streamlined and secure authentication process.
It is important to note that this resource is intended exclusively for student use, and the district does not have the capability to monitor individual progress. Nonetheless, in an effort to enhance user experience, we have implemented a user-friendly single sign-on feature through Clever, simplifying the login process for students.
Parents are encouraged to actively participate in their child's education by assisting them in selecting lessons that cater to their specific needs for additional support. This collaborative approach empowers parents to contribute to their child's academic success, particularly when engaging with the platform from the comfort of home.
Attention All Parents: New District Resource for Families--ASPEN
Please see the information attached in this link regarding a new resource that we are excited to announce is available to district families called ASPEN (Accessing Services Providing Essential Needs).
