What's Happening in School?
Run, Hide, Fight Drill
On September 27th at 1:30pm, your child will participate in two different safety drills to help them and others learn ways they are able to respond to an active threat on campus. Safety drills help prepare and teach us all about proper and safe ways to act in case of emergency.
The Run, Hide, Fight Safety Drills were developed collaboratively with School District U-46 and our law enforcement and fire department partners, based on the Federal Emergency Management Agency web based training IS-907, Active Shooter: What you can do. During the drill, we will provide options for students to learn and be reminded that it is okay for them, under the direction of adults on campus, to either:
Run - if you think you can safely get away, move out and away from the building; or
Hide - If you cannot safely run, lockdown or hide in a classroom, office or staff bathroom where lockdown locks are provided for staff to secure those rooms from the inside without opening the door. When hiding, barricade the door and prepare to defend yourself with whatever means possible
In addition, staff will remind students to report any suspicious behavior they observe by seeing, hearing, on social media platforms, etcetera; If you see something, say something. It is very important that everyone in our school community communicate with school administrators and local law enforcement agencies any information they may have to help ensure the safety of students, staff, and guests who visit the school.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me or Richard Bosh, Director of School Safety through the Let’s Talk app at this link, then scroll down to School Safety and Culture.
Thank you in advance for talking with your child about the importance of this and other safety drills we conduct on campus.
5th and 6th Grade Mural
Ms. Prokopeas loves to brighten the hallways of Spring Trail with our very own artists work! Students in 5th and 6th grade designed a colorful project and then pieced it together to create a collaborative mural.
Morning Announcement FUN!
Every morning we have students come down to the office to help with our announcements. It's always entertaining listening to our students share the RAP and laugh at our jokes!
Mrs. Steber's Class Project
Mrs. Steber's class was learning about Hispanic Heritage month and read a story about George Melendez Write who was the first Hispanic person to have a major role in the National Park Service. After reading the story, the kids went outside to find some leaves in order to create leaf presses! I'd say their artwork is pretty spectacular and they enjoyed this activity!
ATTENTION Kindergarten Families.....
Your kindergarten student is required by the state of Illinois to have a vision exam completed by an Optometrist, Ophthalmologist or physician who provides complete eye exams. If you have not turned in your vision screening, please make sure this gets completed as soon as possible.
Did you know that some vision problems that are detected early enough can be corrected? If these vision problems are not detected early however, your child may have permanent damage.
Eye clinics are adhering to federal, state and local health directives regarding infection prevention measures and implementing appropriate safety procedures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission within the office.
So please make an eye exam appointment for your child to be able to do their best in school! Please contact the nurse at your child’s school for more information.
ATTENTION ALL 5th GRADERS.....
On Tuesday, September 24th all fifth grade students need to bring their chromebooks and chargers to school. Our IT department will be collecting them and immediately switching out their devices for a new model. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Dupuis.
Chromebook Update
It is our hope that by October 15th, all students will have their devices in hand.
Attendance Awareness Month
As we shared in our last newsletter, September is Attendance Awareness Month, and to celebrate, we have been motivating our students with a fun competition. Second Grade: 97.4%
Third Grade: 97.6%

So far this year, Miss Asta's class has earned 18 Golden Tickets which provided them opportunities to have 3 classroom parties. It looks like Miss Asta's kindergarteners have learned quickly what it takes to be TIGERS!!!! Keep up the great work!
HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
Struggling with Eureka Math????
We are all aware that the way we learned math is different from the way our children our learning. When trying to help our children, we might become frustrated with all the new strategies. So I thought it would be helpful for our families to provide a useful support tool. If you go to YouTube, there are lessons specific to the grade level modules. As a parent, it may be beneficial to view the lesson in order to better understand how to support your child.
