Oceanside High School Weekly Update

ONLY 3 DAYS OF SCHOOL LEFT BEFORE END OF FALL TERM!
The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates,
As we reach the end of this fall term, it's a moment to reflect on the incredible journey your students have embarked upon. The halls that echoed with the laughter of new friendships, the classrooms that witnessed the growth of young minds, and the shared experiences that have woven the fabric of a thriving community—all these are testaments to the richness of this academic season.
This fall term has been a tapestry of learning, resilience, and discovery. Your students have navigated challenges, embraced new perspectives, and demonstrated unwavering determination. Each assignment completed, every question asked, and all the small victories achieved have contributed to their personal and academic development.
As we bid farewell to the fall term, let's celebrate the collective effort that has brought us to this moment. The support of families, the dedication of educators, and the enthusiasm of students have combined to create an environment where learning thrives. It's a time to acknowledge the achievements, big and small, that have shaped this term into a stepping stone toward future successes.
Remember, the end of one term is just the beginning of another. The lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the skills acquired during these past months will serve as a strong foundation for the exciting journey ahead. Encourage your students to embrace the upcoming break as an opportunity for rejuvenation and reflection, appreciating the growth they've experienced while eagerly anticipating the adventures that lie ahead.
Thank you for being an integral part of our academic community. Your support and involvement make a significant impact on the educational journey of your loved ones. Wishing you all a joyous holiday season filled with warmth, connection, and the anticipation of new beginnings in the upcoming term.
Cheers to a well-deserved break and the promise of a bright future!

STUDENTS FROM OCEANSIDE HIGH SCHOOL PARTICIPATE IN 2023 SAN BERNARDINO FORESTRY CHALLENGE
Green Valley Lake, CA — 9 students from Oceanside High School
participated recently in the 2023 San Bernardino Forestry Challenge, one group
of a total of 148 high school students from 17 schools from the Southern
California region. The event was November 15 to 18 at Hume SoCal in Green
Valley Lake, California.
One of the highlights for the students this year was the opportunity to do a post-
treatment assessment of the Upper Little Bear Mountain Club Fuel Reduction
Project. Students collected data on a recently treated, undeveloped forest area
owned by the community and will determined if the treatment met the project
objectives. During the Challenge, teams of students also completed a field test
to assess their technical forestry knowledge and data collecting skills.
“Forestry challenge offers our students a chance to use nature as their
classroom. They are able to collect data and analyze it to offer solutions to real
issues. It’s an amazing opportunity for students to put their skills to work for real
problem,” said Oceanside High School teacher Juan Hernandez. Alondra
Mendoza Carballo, a senior at Oceanside, summed it up as follows: “Forestry
Challenge taught me some valuable lessons. If I didn’t come, I would never
have experienced the reality of the forest. Sometimes we’re blinded by what we
believe and don’t see the value of science and forestry management until we
participate in something like this.”

OHS PTSO
For those new to OHS, PTSO includes Parents, Teachers and Students to support the school community. Some of our goals are to promote parent interaction, support the faculty and staff and promote student achievement. Each year is a bit different so we welcome your ideas on ways we can support the school. The donations we receive and the funds we raise go toward staff appreciation events, teacher and club grants, student events, and more. We work closely with our principal Mrs.Garrahy, the administrators and counseling team to be responsive to current needs. All members have a vote in how our funds are used and we have a few openings for leadership positions if you want to give some time.
If you would like to join us or renew your membership for the year, please fill out the form here: OHS PTSO Form 2023-24. If you are interested in volunteering or serving on the board, please indicate that on the form.
Whether you participate in meetings or not, you can support our efforts with a tax-deductible donation. Please go here: PTSO Donation Page (Paypal or CC) or use our new venmo @osideptso. And please join us for our restaurant nights throughout the year.
We typically meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Stay connected with us by joining our Facebook group @Oceanside High School PTSO Parents for Pirates or following us on Instagram @piratesptso.
