🎤 ASB Presidential Election Speeches 🎤

Join us as the ASB presidential candidates deliver their speeches and share their visions for the upcoming school year. This is your chance to hear directly from those who want to represent you—don’t miss it!
After the speeches ballots will open. Make your voice heard. Cast your ballot here!

Fitness Gram
All students in grade 5, 7, and 9 are required to complete the Fitnessgram this year. We have scheduled the following dates and times:
- Tuesday, April 22 at 1:50pm (Grades 7 and 9)
- Wednesday, April 23 at 9:20 (Grades 5 and 9)
The Fitnessgram is a state mandated exam, which public school students in grades five, seven, and nine are required to take. There are five parts to the exam, and students are encouraged to review these exercises ahead of time. (Please note, height and weight are no longer collected.)
For 9th graders, taking the Fitnessgram cannot be stressed enough. Students are required to take 2 years of PE to graduate high school. However, if you do not participate in the Fitnessgram test, you are REQUIRED to take PE additional years.
Please remember to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes!
Invitation to PACTFUL Presentations

We're excited to invite you to our PACTFUL Presentations on Wednesday, April 23rd at 8:00 AM, where our innovative young minds will showcase their solutions for creating meaningful social change.
As part of the Jacob Teen Innovation Challenge—a global competition for students aged 13-18—our participants have embraced design thinking methodologies to develop creative solutions addressing the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals. From tackling climate action to reducing inequalities, these projects represent our students' commitment to building a more sustainable and equitable world.
Come witness how our students have transformed from learners to changemakers, developing practical innovations that address real-world problems in our community and beyond. Their presentations will demonstrate not only their technical skills and creativity but also their passion for positive impact.
We look forward to sharing this inspiring morning with you!

Elementary Dance & Middle School Social
K-8 students, get ready for a day of fun, dancing, and laughter at our Spring “Under the Sea” Dance and Social on April 24th!
Elementary students join us for a Family Dance from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. All students must be accompanied by a parent, and siblings are welcome to join in the fun.
Middle Schoolers can hit the dance floor, socialize with friends, and enjoy some outdoor games at the Spring Social from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM.
We'll keep everyone energized with some light refreshments and endless fun.
Middle schoolers complete permission slips available in the office or online.

Before the week kicks off, join us in covering the campus with colorful chalk messages of appreciation! Let’s make sure our staff sees the love the moment they step onto campus. 💛🖍️

A.P. Environmental Service Learning Presentations.
The entire M.E.A. community is invited to join us on Thursday, May 1, in the Auditorium from 12:30 - 2:00 pm to watch the A.P. Environmental students showcase their volunteer work through a series of informational presentations. As a year-long project, students were asked to develop and participate in a service learning assignment with an environmental theme. We have a diverse group presenting, many of whom focused their energies right here at M.E.A.! Please join us and see what amazing things our environmental students have been doing.
MEA Film Festival - Student Showcase
You're invited to the Second Annual MEA Film Festival!
Join us on Wednesday, April 30th at 12:00 PM as we roll out the red carpet to celebrate the incredible creativity and talent of our video class students. This special showcase will feature 3 original short films created by your fellow classmates throughout the semester, as well as some PSA's. This festival highlights the diverse perspectives and technical skills developed in our video production classes. Come support your peers, enjoy some amazing cinema, and be inspired by what students just like you have accomplished behind the camera. Bring your friends, enjoy the show!
MEA's Enchanted Forest Prom
All high school students are welcome to the MEA's 2025 Prom! Save the date for May 9th and grab your tickets now! Each MEA student can bring one guest who is not from MEA, and you can buy a ticket for your guest at the same time you buy your own. Your guest will need to fill out their own permission form, which you can get from the office. If you need help with ticket costs, scholarships are available—just ask an MEA staff member for details.
How to buy tickets:
Tickets are only available online—no cash accepted. You can sign in to your SchoolCash Online account or use the QR code to buy tickets for yourself and your guest. The tickets will be linked to the student’s name. Please note that all tickets are non-refundable, so keep your receipt to show at the door; a screenshot of the ticket is fine too. Please note that ticket prices will increase as we get closer to the event. Here are the prices:
- $60 until March 28
- $65 from March 29 to May 2
- $70 from May 3 to May 8
No tickets will be available after midnight on May 8.

Important Testing & SHEP Information
1. Advanced Placement (AP) Exams:
- Dates: May 5th - May 16th
- Details: AP exams will be administered according to the schedule provided below. Please ensure that you are well-prepared and arrive promptly for your exams. Note that some AP exams will be administered at other school sites.
2. California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Testing:
- Grades: 3rd-8th & 11th
- Dates: May 12th-May 15th
- Details: CAASPP testing is a crucial component of our educational program, providing valuable insights into student proficiency in various subjects. Students in grades 3-8 and 11 will participate in these assessments, which include English Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics, and Science (grades 5, 8, and 11).

3. Student Health and Education Plans (SHEP):
- Grades: 8th-10th

- Details: The Sexual Health Education Program's (SHEP) mission is to empower students to feel comfortable with their bodies and make informed decisions about their sex and sexuality, including whether or not to be sexually active. It is time for students in grades 5-11 to plan their classes for the next school year!
Current 8th-11th Graders (Class of 2026-2029)
All current 8th -11th graders must either make an appointment (in person or online) to meet with Mr. Rubin or email course requests (arubin@sandi.net). Please reserve a conference time at this link to discuss courses for next year, graduation and college entrance requirements, and community college courses.
During their articulation meeting, incoming 9th graders and their parents can meet with Mr. Rubin to discuss a four-year plan.
Parents are encouraged to attend along with their student(s). Parents who cannot attend should review the course options with their student at home.
Students do not need to return an articulation sheet but should be prepared to share their course requests with Mr. Rubin during their appointment or by email.
If you would prefer to work with Mr. Rubin over email to select classes, please email him your requests.

Beach Cleanup
The beach cleanup organized by MEAEA (MEA Environmental Alliance) and students from German 6 at Scripps Beach took place last Friday. Students, parents and staff filled over 4 buckets full of plastics and other trash.

Feeding San Diego
Please support hungry San Diegans by donating non-perishable foods to Feeding San Diego! A donation box has been placed in the office. Feeding San Diego is especially in need of canned proteins (like canned chicken/ tuna,) ready-to-eat meals (like canned ravioli,) peanut butter, cooking oils, and spices. No glass containers please.
Donated foods will be delivered to the food bank by Girl Scout Troop #4662 (Daisey and Gwenny’s troop.) Deadline to donate is noon Thursday April 24. We appreciate your support!
Eco Ambassadors
In spring 2023, the Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation launched the free Eco Ambassadors program for high school students interested in nature-related careers. The program offers inspiring sessions at the park, where students learn about local ecosystems, conservation, and environmental stewardship.
The deadline to apply for the Summer 2025 cohort is April 13th.
