Carleton Washburne
Monday Memo - December 2, 2024
Washburne Families,
We hope that everyone enjoyed a safe, healthy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday. Today begins our second trimester, and the excitement that new electives and a new trimester brings was evident in the hallways today.
As we head into the Winter months, we wanted to remind our families to please be mindful of our school’s neighbors when picking up students at the end of the day. If you are picking up students on Elm Street, you should park on the south side of the street. This prevents students from needing to cross the street and also prevents driveways from being blocked. If you are picking up on Oak Street, please park on the north side of the street. With the cold weather returning, please remember that our doors open for all students each morning at 8:20 AM. Students should be dressed appropriately for winter weather each day.
We are thankful and fortunate to have a supportive community that partners with us, as we continue to provide a variety of experiences for our students, preparing them both socially and academically as they continue to high school and beyond.
Take Care and Be Well,
Andrew Fenton & Ben Horwitz
Carleton Washburne Principal & Assistant Principal
What’s Happening in Related Studies
In this section we will be shining the spotlight on our Related Studies program and all the wonderful opportunities available to our Washburne students.
Trimester 1 ended on a high note for the cast and crew of Shakespeare's Greatest hits. The theatre was packed for the November 20th evening performance with students, teachers, families, and friends. 60 Washburne students participated in the fall play as actors or crew members. The cast worked hard to create memorable characters and stage moments while the crew created all of the costumes, sets, props, and lighting and sound effects for the five stories: The Tempest, Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Hamlet. Throughout the process, students worked on collaborating and communicating effectively with their peers, solving problems creatively, and developing resilience and self-confidence. Bravo!
Intramural Basketball
Intramural Basketball registration is now live. This is Washburne's House League for basketball, and is open to any 7th or 8th grader who enjoys playing the sport. We will start with team formations days on Saturday, December 7 and December 14 from 12:00-1:30. We will begin the season after winter break. Games will be on Saturdays for an hour between 12pm-3pm.

The Club will meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30. Students may attend when their schedule allows. As a member of the cardio/resistance training club, students will receive 3 hours a week in the fitness room, supervision from a certified KW teacher, and a chance to perform their own workout. The club will start on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 and will continue until March 21, 2025. All students are welcome to join us as we set goals, work on personal training habits, and work on another wonderful lifetime fitness activity.
Registration opens at 9:00am on Tuesday, October 29th via the District Web Store.

Save Time by Pre-Registering Your ID Now for December School Events
In advance of holiday events, we strongly encourage all parents/family members to proactively make a visit to your school to get your ID (Driver’s License) registered in our Raptor System or fill out this form at your earliest convenience (one per guest). This system allows the District to conduct an immediate background check on visitors during school hours so we can ensure that all those within our school buildings are safe and clear to be there. This must be done for each event you are attending; previous Raptor registrations will not suffice for future events. By taking care of this in advance of a holiday event, you should experience a more efficient entry process. If you are unable to do this in advance, remember to bring your drivers license or state ID the day of the event and arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the event in order to register.
To expedite the process even further, please fill out this form (one per guest).
