The ancient code of the Knights Radiant says, "journey before destination." Some may call it a simple platitude, but it is far more. A journey will have pain and failure. It is not only the steps forward that we must accept. It is the stumbles. The trials. The knowledge that we will fail. That we will hurt those around us.

But if we stop, if we accept the person we are when we fall, the journey ends. That failure becomes our destination. To love the journey is to accept no such end. I have found, through painful experience, that the most important step a person can take is always the next one."

I came across this quote by Brandon Sanderson, a favorite fantasy author of mine. There are certain times when I can see the spirit of the IB in literature, and this writ as fire upon the page. Learning comes from taking risks, the acceptance of failure, and the courage to keep going. For those who feel that there is cause to give up, remember, "To love the journey is to accept no such end...the most important step a person can take is always the next one."

Thank you to all our Eagle families how donated items to help make our Annual Fall Festival a success! Our Woodlawn community enjoyed delicious snacks among them elotes, hot cheetos with cheese, and pickles. Students were not shy of getting a colorful face painting and tossing rings onto soda bottles to earn a prize.

One of the more memorable features was the spooky haunted house which students of all ages did not shy away from.

Families enjoyed themselves while also supporting one of our largest school fundraisers for this year. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for your support during our Recycling Competition. So far, Woodlawn Academy has recycled a total of 2796.35 pounds!

This is the last week so we welcome your final efforts. Cardboard is the heaviest item and easiest to sort through. We appreciate your recycled donations!

3rd Grade and Kinder are sponsoring a Veteran's Wall of Honor. Please bring pictures and brief bio of your beloved veterans to be posted in our school.

In partnership with the San Antonio Food Bank, SAISD is hosting the next food distribution event at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Alamo Stadium (110 Tuleta Dr., 78212). Pre-register today at www.saisd.net/fooddistribution. All SAISD families are welcome. Distribution will take place on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

Are you interested in participating in a school event as a volunteer. Perhaps support PTO with teacher appreciation events, join your child on a field trip, or help out in a Field Day? You will need a background check through SAISD process. The process can take a few weeks to complete, don't miss out on an opportunity of volunteering because the background check wasn't in on time.
