Publication of Baugo Community Schools: Spring 2024
Superintendent's Message:
Celebration fills the air as Spring brings the end of the academic school year. The Class of 2024 will embark on new adventures. Some of our graduates will enter the work force, others the military. Many of the seniors will continue their education as college students. We recognize that every one of our students are unique; each with different gifts and talents. Our tagline mentions World Class Opportunities, and we demonstrate them by maintaining a competitive and rigorous curriculum and experiences. Where our small school realities limit some diversity in programming, we partner with the Elkhart Area Career Center to make up the difference. This relationship ensures that our students can explore career opportunities far beyond our capacity. And, where real world experiences make practical sense, we continue to grow apprenticeship programming. As Spring brings renewal and change, we wish the Class of 2024 success and happiness.

Alumni Banquet
The Alumni Association of Jimtown High School will host the 99th annual Jimtown Alumni Banquet on Saturday, June 1st, in the Jimtown High School auxiliary gym. A social hour will begin at 5:00pm with dinner being served at 6:30pm. This annual event is a time honored tradition and a wonderful opportunity for our school community to engage. If you have questions, please contact Marcia Clark at (574) 250-5196.
Apprenticeship Opportunities Increase
On March 19th, Jimtown High School again hosted CareerWise Elkhart County’s Apprenticeship Interview Day. Students from all over the county, including more than 20 JHS sophomores and juniors, participated in this opportunity to secure apprenticeships with a variety of local businesses for next school year. The opportunities allow students to get real-world experience, earn credits, and meet graduation requirements.
Volunteering in Action
On March 20th, the JHS National Honor Society hosted their spring blood drive. NHS students get to earn volunteer hours, while students who meet the criteria are allowed to participate. Some 50 JHS students donated to help the local blood supply and give back to the community.
Students Compete and Achieve at JJHS
Jimtown Intermediate Welcomes Junior Achievement
On March 21, JIS was filled with employees from DJ Construction, Lippert Components, First Source Bank, and other local businesses. These individuals volunteered to spend the morning with Jimtown Intermediate students for our annual JA in a Day teaching classrooms and exposing our kiddos to economic principles.
Students Contribute Through Fundraising
What a success our Booster Fundraiser was! 6th grade students had the opportunity to raise funds to cover the cost of their Chicago field trip, and all of our students enjoyed a day of exercise and lots of fun.
Financial Literacy Begins Early
Several Chase Bank and parent volunteers recently spent the morning teaching our students about earning, saving, and then spending money wisely. This is the 8th year that we have partnered with Chase Bank for J.A. in a Day. Each year the lessons build on concepts to help give our students a better understanding of real world money, and concepts on how to be smart consumers. We truly appreciate those volunteers for giving their time!
Kindergarten Highlights
Our Kindergarten students continue to work hard as they get ready for first grade. With their daily dose of reading groups, intensive phonics, whole group reading and writing, they are building a foundation for being lifelong readers. Kindergarten students also go to the Brain Lab four times a week to improve their gross and fine motor skills, memory, and self-regulation. These are all characteristics that bring success in school. To do all this, while still trying to make learning fun, is quite the challenge for our outstanding K Team. So a big thank you to Mrs. Stone, Mrs. Smith, Miss Rose, Mrs. Byers, Mrs. Washington, and Mr. McMahon!
SCHOOL LUNCH HEROES
Thank you to our school cafeteria ladies for their hard work throughout the school year. Their smiles, dedication, and healthy meal preparation help ensure that our students are ready to take on each school day.
