Illuminate guest speaker Chris Singleton
Maple School is excited to welcome award-winning author and former professional baseball player Chris Singleton as part of Illuminate, a day dedicated to fostering Mustang inclusion and belonging.
Mr. Singleton is a nationally renowned speaker who overcame the loss of his mother in the Charleston church shooting in 2015. Mr. Singleton's age-appropriate, inspiring presentation, "Love, Unity, and a Positive School Culture," will focus on fostering meaningful connections and encouraging students to overcome obstacles they may encounter throughout the academic year.
To underscore the impact of words, Mr. Singleton will share powerful stories from his own life and his visits to schools across the country, reminding students that “what may seem small to you could be significant to someone else.” Finally, Mr. Singleton will teach what it means to be a “united school,” celebrating each other’s differences and fostering a community of support and understanding.
Safety drill details
As we settle into the school year, we’ve already started practicing our safety drills to ensure everyone is well-prepared in the event of an emergency. Last Tuesday, we successfully conducted our first fire drill of the year, and I’m proud to share that our students did an excellent job, completing it in record time!
Looking ahead, all students will take part in a bus evacuation drill during lunch on Tuesday, September 17. This drill is essential, as many of our students will likely go on field trips throughout the year.
Thank you for your continued support in making safety a top priority at Maple School.
Parent/Teacher Advisory Council
Survey deadline is today
Our Maple Parent/Teacher Advisory Council is seeking parent members for the 2024-25 school year. The Parent/Teacher Advisory Council (PTAC) has been created and designed to engage our learning community in discussion and dialogue about the education of our students. The PTAC focuses on topics regarding the school’s curriculum, programming, procedures and any other areas that may impact our students and their learning environment. Additionally, the Parent/Teacher Advisory Council will review and explore educational research and best practices relative to Maple School and the middle-level child.
We intend to maintain a 10- to 15-member council that is representative of the diversity of our Maple School community. Members of the Maple Parent/Teacher Advisory Council will be a well-informed group in order to provide support and guidance for our learning community during the school year.
Planned meeting dates are: October 7, December 9 and March 3 and May 12 at 6:30-7:30 p.m. The meetings will be held in Maple School’s LMC.
If you are interested in serving on the Maple Parent/Teacher Advisory Council, please complete the PTAC Google Form that is due today.
Charters uplift student voices
This month, we are building community in class by recognizing that all emotions matter by creating a Charter that reflects how we want to feel in our classrooms. Maple created its own unique Charter, which cultivates a sense of safety and camaraderie within our schools.
AT SCHOOL WE ARE LEARINING
Emotions influence our ability to make decisions, learn new things, be healthy, and have rewarding relationships with friends and family.
Students and teachers work together to uplift student voices and create Charters.
Students engage in conversations through ‘Community Circles’ and advisory discussions to build relationships and promote understanding and perspective-taking.
NEXT WEEK ...
