PAC Halloween Event November 1
PAC will be hosting a fall festival/ Halloween party on Friday, November 1 from 6:30pm - 8:30 pm at Norton Elementary School. This event will have games, snacks, and a costume parade.
Veterans Day Celebration November 11
Veterans are invited to come and enjoy patriotic songs with our students as we pay tribute to those who have served our country. NES will be hosting a Veterans Day celebration on Monday, November 11 from 9:30-10:30. Information was sent home to register a veteran. Please contact the office if you would like an additional form.
Attendance Letters Were Sent With Report Cards
Be advised that our office sent every family an attendance letter with report cards. We want to change the conversation from how much a child has missed school to a conversation about how much a child attends school. Look for your child's attendance rate on this letter. You will receive this letter every grading period with an updated cumulative percentage. The state expectation is that a child will be at school at least 90% of the time. We would prefer 95% or higher.
So far this year, 67% of NES students have been to school 95% of the time or higher and 87% of our students have attended school 90% of the time or higher. Please review your child's attendance rate and set a goal of at least 90% attendance for the year.
Free School Breakfast and Lunch
We are excited to inform you that Norton City Schools will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2024-2025 school year. This federal program allows us to provide free breakfast and lunch to all enrolled students.
What does this mean for your family? Free Meals for All Students: Every student enrolled in Norton City Schools will receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each school day at no cost to you.
No Action Required: You do not need to fill out a meal application or take any further steps for your child to participate.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our staff is here to help you! Contact Information: Kailin Hose Food Service Supervisor 330-706-2711 khose@nortonpanthers.org
Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Lessons
Last year, the Ohio General Assembly enacted Senate Bill 288 which updated the prescribed curriculum for health education to include requirements addressing child sexual abuse prevention, dating violence prevention, and sexual violence prevention. Instruction is to be developmentally age appropriate and provided annually. Students in kindergarten through grade 6 will receive instruction in the prevention of child sexual abuse.
Students at NES will receive Child Sexual Abuse Prevention lessons during Enrichment class from November 19-22 and November 25th. These will be presented by Mrs. Tracey Colecchi, a school counselor in our district.
Parents will receive notification in November and may choose to opt out of this lesson.
The Panther Way - Contribute
This month our NES staff and students will be focusing on the "contribute" competency. "Students will act with integrity and empathy while demonstrating personal accountability and make positive contributions to the world. Students actively pursue opportunities that make a positive difference in the lives of others."
Students will work together as a class to break down these definitions into kid-friendly language and share what being a contributor looks and sounds like. November is a great time to discuss how citizens can be an active contributor through the voting, participating in holiday giving opportunities, or through military service. Our goal is to celebrate our monthly competency together at an all-school assembly and classroom activities. Our next Panther Way Day assembly will be on November 11 for our staff and students.
Norton Aid Canned Food Drive
Please consider CONTRIBUTING to the Norton Aid canned food drive. This annual event provides food and holiday support to Norton families. Classes will be accepting canned food or monetary donations from 11/18-12/6.
Highlights from October's Celebration of the Panther Way Competency of "Communicate"
In October, students celebrated our Panther Way day by attending a school-wide assembly hosted by school counselors, Kate Weaver and Marly Taylor. Afterwards, students participated in class activities around the Panther Way competency of "communicate"
VOLUNTEER PROTOCOL
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, effective immediately, all individuals who volunteer in Norton City Schools are required to undergo a comprehensive background check. This process helps to ensure that we are providing the safest possible learning environment for our students. Background checks will be required for all volunteers, including those attending class parties, field trips, and working in the building. Please follow the process below to register as a volunteer.
To cover the cost associated with conducting these background checks, the district will charge volunteers a fee of $25, which is the actual cost incurred by Norton City Schools. Background checks are valid for five years. We appreciate the dedication of our volunteers and thank you for your understanding of this necessary procedure.
For more information or assistance with the background check please contact the Norton City Schools administration office.
Holiday Party Information
We are excited to continue using volunteers to host holiday parties at Norton Elementary School! Holiday parties provide students with an opportunity to have social interactions with their peers and celebrate throughout the year. Please follow the guidelines below to help us ensure a safe, fun event.
Each classroom will be assigned a head room parent (MUST BE A REGISTERED VOLUNTEER). Head room parents will assign volunteers to one of the three school parties.
All families will have the opportunity to communicate with the room parent of any interest in volunteering for a party. ANYONE ATTENDING MUST BE A REGISTERED VOLUNTEER.
Our intention is that anyone interested in volunteering will have the opportunity to attend one party.
Only volunteers that have been signed up in advance will be allowed to attend a party.
No other guests will be permitted to attend parties (other than assigned volunteers).
Holiday Party Dates: 1:00pm -2:00pm
12/19/2024 Winter Party
2/14/2025 Valentines Party
We would like to thank any parent volunteer that helped at the Halloween parties or donated fun prizes or treats!

Cavs Game February 10, 2025
NES is planning another night at the Cleveland Cavaliers game. The Cavaliers will be playing the Minnesota Timberwolves at 7:00 pm on Monday, February 10. Last year we had nearly 100 people attend the game and we had so much fun! Please read the information below if you want to join the fun!
This year, we are purchasing bulk tickets so that families can sit together. Seats will be available in the Loudville corner section and will cost $34 each. The price of the ticket varies by opponent and we found a game that is against one of the better teams in the league with a lower priced ticket. By purchasing bulk tickets, families will avoid paying any additional fees.
The process to purchase tickets will be to send cash or check (Norton City Schools) to the NES secretaries with an order form. The deadline to purchase tickets will be the firm date of January 10. Tickets will be transferred to families after January 10. Families may purchase tickets on their own after January 10, but will order directly through the Cavaliers and may not be guaranteed a seat in our section.
NES students will have a chance to experience the Cavs halftime fan tunnel. Please contact the office with any questions. Print the order form or request an order form from the NES office.
Help Wanted - Substitute Teachers
We are looking for positive people looking to join a strong team of educators to support students. Norton City Schools is looking for qualified substitute teachers. Substitute teachers need to have a high school diploma. Please contact central office at 330-825-0863 or the building secretary for more information.
