Mr. Goetz's Corner
Dear Falcon Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed their extra cold days this week! We were glad to see all of our Falcons friends again on Thursday. Thank you for your support in getting your kids back to school even on a day that was so snowy. We appreciate your efforts in making school a priority!
Today was our kick off Assembly for our Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser. It was a fun and wonderful event to get our students excited to participate! Ask your student about the assembly and please read below for more information to donate and help your students start their fundraisings.
Because of the extra cold days and no school at the beginning of the week, it delayed getting report cards ready to go home today. Please look for these on Monday January 27th. This is an important communication tool between you and your student to celebrate their accomplishment but to also discuss how they can improve moving forward in this school year.
Finally, our PTO used book sale has been moved to next week. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday students can bring their money for books they would like for 0.25 cents each!
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Goetz

Positivity Project
This week we're working on PERSEVERANCE. Perseverance means you complete what you start despite obstacles. You never give up. Individuals with this strength might be described as: persistent, hard-working, gritty, devoted, courageous, industrious.
Smart Watches
We strongly encourage parents to leave any smart devices (phones, watches, etc.) your student may have at home. In the event that your student brings one to school, it must be turned off and kept in their backpacks to avoid distractions during the school day. If the rule is not followed, the watch will be confiscated and must be picked up by a parent. Thank you for your cooperation helping our students build responsible habits.
Borrowed Clothing Requests
If your child borrows clothing from our school’s extra supply, including snow pants, gloves and boots, please remember to wash and return it as soon as possible so it can be available for other students in need. Additionally, if you have children's clothing you're no longer using (especially boys pants sizes 5-8 ), you can send it in with your student or drop it off to Mrs. Splain in the office. We appreciate your help in keeping our supply well-stocked and ready for use!
Update & Requests: Used Book Sale
- New date of sale (due to school closures) is January 29th - 31st.
- In addition to your generous donations, we still need help organizing and selling books during the sale. Please visit the SignUp Genius HERE to help.
Students will shop during their lunch periods, and all books will cost 25 cents. Please encourage your student(s) to attend. We are still accepting book donations until Tuesday, January, 28th. Thank you for your tremendous support!
Candy Grams
It's time to send a special note and sweet surprise to your friends and/or staff members! Candy grams cost $0.50 each. Pre-orders are due by Friday, February 7th. We highly encourage pre-ordering, so please fill out the form that was sent home with your student. Another form is below for your reference. If you have any questions, please reach out to the PTO at deerfield.pto.3600@gmail.com. Thank you!

Education Benefits Application Reminder
This is a reminder for all families to complete the CEP Education Benefits Application, if you have not already done so for this school year. Although school meals are free for all students, it is critical that all households complete the CEP Education Benefits Application. This information determines the amount of money our schools receive from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs that support our students, staff, and families.
Families can submit their completed application online through the Meal Magic Family Portal. Any questions can be forwarded to Megan Haase at megan.haase@avondaleschools.org.

Deadline EXTENDED for Student Poster Contest
Avondale's Portrait of a Graduate is a framework for the skills, knowledge, and character traits our district aims for its students to develop by the time they graduate. This includes Conscientious Citizen, Creative Problem Solver, Effective Communicator, Innovative Thinker, and Self-Actualized Risk Taker. Our schools use this model to align teaching, programs, and culture around these core competencies, ensuring that every student graduates equipped for lifelong success.
Winners from elementary, middle, and high school will have their designs professionally styled, printed, and displayed throughout the district! Submit your poster to your school's front office by January 31, 2025. Avondale staff and families will then vote for their favorites!
Learn more about Avondale's Portrait of a Graduate at www.avondaleschools.org/academics.
