60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
Our fall sports student-athletes and coaches faced many challenges to safely compete in practices and games. They all rose to the occasion, following health protocols and procedures to give them the opportunity to safely experience these extracurricular activities. There were many bright spots in this fall sports season - including a Division I State Championship for Girls Soccer. In this week’s episode, we hear from SHS Athletic Director Mr. Denny Ziegler, Girls Soccer Coach Mr. Todd Church, and senior soccer student-athletes Shelby Sallee and Sarah Robertson - click HERE for an overview of the accomplishments of our fall athletic teams.
SCS LEARNING FRAMEWORK (NOVEMBER 30 - DECEMBER 17)
At last evening’s Strongsville Board of Education meeting, the Board voted unanimously to support Dr. Ryba’s recommendation for all students (PreK - 12th grade) to move to Remote Learning 2.0 from Monday, November 30 - Thursday, December 17. Please click HERE for the email communication to families providing more details regarding this decision.
The Board of Education’s next meeting is scheduled for December 10th. At this meeting, they will discuss and determine the District’s learning framework for the return from Winter Break (Monday, January 4th) and beyond.
SCS RESPONSIBLE RESTART COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE
Our District has created the SCS Responsible Restart Comprehensive Guide - one document in one location outlining our District’s policies and procedures. This document should be used as a guide, allowing you to quickly find answers to your questions. The guide can also be found at www.strongnet.org/restart.
As we have seen throughout the pandemic, factors can change on a daily basis and this Guide will remain adjustable and flexible to respond to state and local health guidelines.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. MARY MATRAS, 2ND GRADE TEACHER AT MURASKI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Mrs. Mary Matras is in her 30th year with Strongsville City Schools. Mrs. Matras has worked at both Allen Elementary and Muraski Elementary Schools. She currently teaches second grade at Muraski. Mrs. Matras earned her undergraduate degree from Cleveland State University and has completed most of her graduate coursework from Ashland University.
“I am passionate about working with all students, but what is most rewarding is working with students who struggle to master new skills. I continue to challenge myself and these students to keep trying different ways to achieve success. The students' determination is incredible,” said Mrs. Matras.
She added, “I have been fortunate over the years to work with outstanding colleagues who value cooperation and collaboration. I treasure the professional relationships, as well as the personal friendships, I have made as a Strongsville teacher. Strongsville has certainly changed and grown in many ways during my 30 years here. It has been, and continues to be, a great community in which to work.”

OPT IN FOR TEXT MESSAGES FROM SCS
With the abundance of emails that we all receive on a daily basis, and some being directed to spam or becoming buried in other folders in your email account, it sometimes leaves you without knowing an email was sent. One way to address this issue is to send a text that alerts an email has been sent. Although our texting option is not new for the district, families must opt in to receive our texts. More parent opt ins are needed to make it an effective communication strategy. Please click HERE and follow the directions to opt in to our text messaging service.
