Prayer Warriors is collecting cookies and snacks for USMMA. Please drop off in the office or at Ms. Abrams' room 234. Collection ends Wednesday, March 13th

Spring Picture Day is March 14. It is "prepay" only for students interested in having their picture made.

• Students need to bring the form/payment with them on picture day or the parent can also purchase on-line
• We have several new students this semester...we will reach out to them in the event that they want to purchase pictures
• These pictures will not be the ones in the yearbook

Dental Hygienists will continue to be here seeing students to add dental sealants. Students will be called during Related Arts to go to the small gym area to see the dental hygienists.

Fridays couldn't be sweeter thanks to the FRI-YAY snack cart. PTO will be set up during activity period (when students walk the track) selling a snack on Fridays during the school year. Your student can buy a pre-packaged treat for $2.00. The plan is for our snacks to change monthly depending on the feedback we get from the students. The snack cart is cash only!

KATS is the public transit system in our area. Reach out to us if you need help getting information about routes, times, or ticket or booklet purchase.

Our community has an outreach that offers FREE haircuts at a local church. These are typically offered every other Monday (next scheduled date is Mon. March 18). They begin at 9am and finish after their last haircut. If transportation is an issue, we can assist by utilizing the school van.

Food bags are offered every other week. If there is a need and your child is not bringing these home, please call the office or contact Robin Kerkhoff to get on the distribution list.

If your child is in need of gently used clothing, please let them know to visit Mrs. Kerkhoff in the office. She can assist in gathering items for them. Also, KCS has a Family Resource Center (FRC) that will assist families with a variety of needs.

Clothes closet needs: At this time we are mostly in need of male clothing - sweatpants/joggers, athletic shorts, socks, tennis shoes, underwear (men's size XS, small, medium - we do not need size large). You can drop these items off at the office.

Parent and player meeting will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 4:30pm. The meeting will be held in the Alumni Room (2nd floor) in the Field House (building that is on the scoreboard end of the football field at DB).

Information was sent to you regarding your child's high school registration meeting (date/time). If you are planning to attend, please be on time because meetings are scheduled back to back. We will stick to the 20 minute scheduled time.

If you did not receive this information, please call the counseling office 378-2435 to update your address and/or email.

Attention 8th grade families: All money needs to be paid in full and turned in to Mr. Moore or Mrs. Bingham ASAP. If you have questions contact Marty Moore, mmoore@k12k.com.

For students NOT attending the DC trip, local trips are offered (for those that qualify). Permission forms, Just Jump Waiver, and the deposit were due by February 29.

Dance team members will have their fitting for team uniforms on March 13th after school. Parents should arrive at 4PM for pickup.

Wednesday, March 13 - There will be a Sequoyah Scribe staff meeting from 2:50 to 3:20pm in room 329. All staff members are required to attend. The editorial team will meet until 4:30 pm.

Middle School Weight Lifting will be offered from 3:15-4:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the DB Weight Room. Students can ride the bus from Sevier to D-B if needed. Training will occur in the second floor weight room of the Alumni Field House. Parents will need to arrive for pick up from DB by 4:10pm (field house area or Veteran Memorial Park). Open to any KCS middle school student with a physical and KCS medical packet on file. Students do not need to be involved in a sport to attend, but students planning to tryout for sports at DB are strongly encouraged to attend. Prayer Warriors will meet every other Wednesday at 7:15AM in the library . On the alternate Wednesday Wyldlife will be held in the library starting at 7:15AM. Please join us for that as well. Participants must have a completed permission form prior to attending. They can pick a permission form up from the office.

This time, we are partnering with Jostens to produce a 100-page, full-color, hardback yearbook to celebrate the memories students will make. Yearbooks will cost $30.00; customizing the yearbook with a student's name will cost an additional $8.00.

Every year, we have a large number of students who miss the opportunity to purchase a yearbook because they simply forget to place a pre-order. Ordering early is the best way to secure a copy of the yearbook.

Anyone that plans on playing football next year for John Sevier or Dobyns Bennett (DB) would be greatly benefitted by participating in the weight lifting program for middle school athletes that is held at DB. Weight lifting details are outlined above. If you are planning to play football and are not involved in a winter sport/practice, it is strongly encouraged to attend.

The PTO has organized a Spring Supply Drive and would love your support in helping the teachers receive much needed supplies! The Spring Supply Drive will be through an Amazon wish list for extra convenience! Please ensure you choose John Sevier’s address and it will be sent right to the school. If purchasing from Amazon is not an option then you can purchase any items below and drop them off at the school with a note saying the grade it is intended for. We are blessed to have several water bottle filling stations located throughout the school. It is encouraged for students to bring a water bottle with them to stay hydrated. Also, this helps students from missing class time if they have water with them rather than making trips to the water fountain.

D-B EXCEL is a STEM designated program that offers a smaller learning environment for students in grades 9-12 and focuses on blended and project-based learning. DBE is part of Dobyns-Bennett, but our campus is located in the Kingsport Press Building in downtown Kingsport. You can CLICK HERE to view a video about DBE.

Students’ cell phones and other electronic devices are to be turned off and not visible upon a student’s arrival to school (upon entering the building) until the end of the student’s school day. Students must store their cell phones and other electronic devices in their backpacks (exceptions may be granted for medical or other extraordinary circumstances as determined by the building principal or designee). Cell phones may be confiscated if this rule is violated. When confiscated from students, parents will be asked to retrieve the cell phone from the school administration.

• 1st offense - The item will be confiscated and kept at the school for a minimum of five (5) consecutive school days. To retrieve the confiscated item, a parent or guardian must contact the appropriate administrator.

• 2nd offense - When a student has a second offense during the current semester, the item will be confiscated for a minimum of ten (10) school days. A parent or guardian must retrieve the confiscated item from the front office.

• 3rd offense - When a student has a third offense during the current semester, the item may be confiscated for the remainder of the school year. A parent or guardian may retrieve the confiscated item at the end of the school day on the last day of the school year.
