Please help our students shine by making sure our students get plenty of rest each night and have a healthy breakfast each day. We also ask that you ensure that your child arrives to school each day on time and you avoid scheduling appointments during school hours. Finally, we ask that you talk to your child about doing their best on the test, but not to the extent that they are worried or stressed. This is not a test that students study for; it is a chance for them to show what they know!
BOGO Book Fair
It's BOGO Book Fair time! EVERYTHING is Buy One, Get One FREE at our Scholastic Book Fair! Students will shop with their class during their weekly library visit from Wednesday, May 7 - Tuesday, May 13. Students can bring cash, checks made payable to LVE or set-up an electronic eWallet. The eWallet link is included on the book fair homepage. Please contact our librarian, Ms. Cook at jennifercook@wsdr4.org if you have any questions. Thank you for supporting our fair!

Class Placement Requests
In the coming weeks we will begin our class placement process for the 2025-2026 school year. We know many families like to provide preferrred characteristics for their child's teacher placement. We would love to gather this input. However, please be advised that, as in years past, we cannot accept specific requests for specific teacher placements.
If you would like to provide input and feedback in your child(ren)'s placement for next year, please send an email to Mr. Holler and/or Mrs. Keebey explaining what characteristics you feel would be beneficial for your child. We will take this into account to the greatest possible extent. Please do not include a specific teacher's name. We look at a wide range of factors in placing students, and cannot always guarantee a specific placement with a specific teacher.
Important Calendar Change for 2024-25
We're excited to have some flexibility in our calendar that allows us to move up our last day of school for all students this year. View the updated Academic Calendar on the district website. Read more.
End of the Year Activities
Kindergarten End of the Year Celebration- We will host an end-of-the-year celebration to recognize our kindergarten students for successfully completing their first year in school. The kindergarten celebration will take place on Friday, May 9. Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Jacobsen, and Ms. Eifert's classes will hold their celebration at 10:00 a.m. Mrs. McCulloch, Mrs. Turntine, and Ms. Rains' classes will hold their celebrations at 12:00 p.m. Both celebrations will take place in our gym.
5th Grade BBQ- At the end of each school year, we celebrate and honor our 5th-grade students who will be moving onto middle school next year. This event will take place on Friday, May 16 from 12:45-2:45 p.m. We are happy that we are still able to hold this event. Parent volunteers will be allowed to attend this year! We will be asking 5th-grade parents for food and drink donations for this event.
End of the Year Clap-Out- Another long-standing LVE tradition, the end-of-the-year "Clap-Out," will be scheduled for our final day of the school year, Friday, May 23. The final day of school will be an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m. We will invite our 5th grade parents to the clap-out ceremony beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Field Day- Field Day will take place on Wednesday, May 21. Students in grades K-2 will participate in field day activities in the morning, while students in grades 3-5 will participate in their field day activities in the afternoon. If we were to be rained out on Wednesday, May 21, the following day, Thursday, May 22 will serve as our alternate date for this event. Parent volunteers are able to participate in this activity. All volunteers for this activity will need to have a completed Volunteer Background Check.
Standards Based Grading
Benefits of Getting Outside After School!
Spring is in the air! We have lots of exciting activities coming up around the building, including MAP testing for our 3rd-5th graders. Here are some mindfulness strategies that can help your kids feel their best no matter what they might be tackling this Spring.
Calming Strategies:
Breathing Exercises
Bee Breaths:
Breathe in like you are a bee smelling a flower; Breathe out and make a Bzzzzzz sound like a buzzing bee.
Bunny Breaths:
Hold your hands like bunny ears on your head. Turn your nose up to the sky like a bunny standing and sniffing the spring air, breathe in 3 short breaths like a bunny and breathe out.
Bloom Breathing:
Crouch down like you’re a flower ready to bloom. Slowly rise like you are blooming, as you inhale, reach your arms & face up towards the sun. Hold your breath for a moment before exhaling and return your arms to your sides.
Grounding Exercises:
Object Focus:
Hold an object in front of you; look at it; then look beyond the object; repeat until feeling calm.
Pick a Color Room Search:
Pick a color and look around the room to find 10 things with that color.
Mindful Moments Videos for Kids:
Test Prep:
Make a Test Day Mantra: something to help you feel confident and calm. Write it down; put it in a spot where you will see it; repeat it every morning
Pack your school bag the night before and place it by the door
Eat breakfast the day of the test
Get outside!
Move your body: pick your favorite movement based activity or try something new!
Remember: one test does not define who you are as a student, as a learner, or a person. As long as you try your best, your best is good enough.

The Cost of an Absence
Research shows that students that miss more than 10 days a year are 20% less likely to graduate on time. By coming to school each day they aren't sick, you student is staying on track for graduation. But that's not all! Attending school every day has impacts beyond elementary, middle, and high school. Almost 90% of students that miss 15 days a year in high school, drop out of college. Prepare for the future by encouraging consistent attendance every day!

Wear It Wednesday
Wear it Wednesday!
Every Wednesday at Lakeview is a House Spirit Day, which we call WEAR IT WEDNESDAY! If your child wears a shirt reflecting their house color, they get one house point. We recognize not all families or students have official house shirts, and we want to recognize students who rock their house colors. As a reminder the colors are:
Altruismo - Black
Amistad - Red
Isibindi - Green
Reveur - Blue
If your child comes to school in a house shirt OR wearing a shirt of their color, they earn a point for their house.
