As you know, school was closed today, Monday, February 19, in honor of President's Day. Classes will resume tomorrow, Tuesday, February 20.

Please be sure to note the new items that are shared in the newsletter below. Also, I want to draw your attention to the very bottom of this newsletter. There you will find a link to a Google form for you to submit items you might want us to share with the community in future newsletters. Thank you to Ms. Rivera for including this as a way to streamline upcoming events and ensuring we do not miss sharing your important events.

Finally, congratulations to the Girl's Basketball Team for wining the district! They have been amazing all year long and we are looking forward to a back-to-back regional championship.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We are reaching out to request your assistance with the upcoming May 2024 Exam session for the AP/IB program. Specifically, we are in need of proctors for the AP and IB. No prior experience is necessary. Exams scheduled between April 27, 2024, and May 24, 2024. Exam times will vary and would appreciate partial day or full day support. The morning session is from about 7:30am until about 11:30am and an afternoon session is from about 11:30am until about 5:00pm.

Proctors will play a crucial role by:

• Setting up the exam room with necessary supplies
• Attending to any student needs during the exams
• Monitoring students throughout the exam duration
• Assisting in the collection of exam materials

Volunteers will be required to complete an online child abuse training module and undergo fingerprinting. If you are interested, please fill out this form, and we will be in touch with further instructions.

On Friday, March 1st, we will host our 2nd annual AEHS Career Fair. Our goal is to have one professional in each classroom, during each class period. Last year was a huge success, and we are hopeful to follow up in a big way this year!

The Swing Café is the Instrumental Music Department's biggest fundraiser of the year supporting ALL Instrumental Music students. "SAT Day" will be held at Einstein high school on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. Grade 11 students will take the Digital SAT exam, and other students will participate in activities that will help them prepare for life after high school. Any students not in grade 11 will have the opportunity to sign up for a SAT exam.

Registration for Digital SAT

Grade 11 students are automatically registered for the SAT and do not have to pay for the exam. Any students not in grade 11 are eligible to register for the exam. You can register for the SAT here by Friday, 2/16. The exam costs $42 and can be paid for using your child's school cash online account. A payment link will be shared once you have registered. Payment is required by Friday, Match 1.

Help AEHS Instrumental Music and Choral Students Attend the Spring Trip to Quantico & Williamsburg!

Hello Titan families!

The AEHS Instrumental Music and Choral students have a great opportunity to perform at the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico and attend music and choral clinics at William & Mary University in Williamsburg in April 2024. Please help students cover the costs of this 3-day trip by making a donation!

This is an incredible opportunity for our AEHS musicians. Travel and other associated costs are not covered by the school, so we need your help. Please consider making a donation to PACE, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible.

If you are supporting a specific student-musician, please check the "Write us a comment" box on the donation form and enter the student's full name in the comment section to ensure your donation will help cover costs for that student. Contributions without a comment will be used to support the entire experience and students who are most in need.

Please share with your family, friends and neighbors! Every dollar contributed will help offset the costs of this trip for our hardworking and talented student-musicians.

Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) launched his annual Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s Eighth District. The competition invites high school students across the district to submit their original artwork for Congressional recognition and for the chance to see their art displayed in the United States Capitol.

“Each year, I look forward to seeing the boundless artistic talent and youth creativity represented in my Congressional Art Competition,” said Rep. Raskin. “I encourage all high school students across our district with a passion for visual arts to enter the 2024 competition and share their vision with us. Eighth District youth are the future of American art.”

All high school students residing in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District are eligible and encouraged to enter the competition. All entries must be submitted digitally via the portal here no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 25, 2024. The online submission must include a single entry as well as a completed Student Information & Release Form. Complete submission guidelines can be found on Congressman Raskin’s website here.

Independent judges from the Eighth District will evaluate entries and recommend one first-place winner, whose work will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside other winning pieces from Maryland and across the nation.

Additionally, the winning entry and a larger pool of honorees from the district will be shown at local arts center VisArts (155 Gibbs Street, Rockville, MD 20850) from May 5, 2024 through May 12, 2024. A selection of runner-up pieces from the exhibition will also be featured in Representative Raskin’s Rockville District Office. In honor of each of our student artists, all submissions will be featured in Representative Raskin’s virtual art gallery. You can view the 2023 virtual gallery here.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has a business partnership with Schaeffer’s Piano Company, Inc., where they provide 15 grand, upright, and digital loaner pianos to MCPS at no cost. MCPS provides maintenance for the instruments and informs our students, parents, and guardians of the partnership.

Background:

Schaeffer’s Piano Company, Inc., has a public sale of instruments twice a year—the second sale is scheduled for February 17–25, 2024. During this time, the public can purchase pianos at reduced prices. Our partnership with Schaeffer’s Piano Company, Inc., commits MCPS to provide the notice of this sale to each student.

The Mu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is hosting our annual 2024 Talent Hunt Showcase at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School on Sunday, March 17, 2024. We need assistance from local high schools with seeking talented students to participate in the upcoming Talent Hunt Showcase. Congratulations to Renee Boissiere and Maeve Salzman who have both scored 1000 career points for the Lady Titans Basketball Team. It is rare for a team to have one player score 1K career points, and it almost never happens that a team has two 1K career point scorers on the same team. Congratulations to Renee and Maeve, and Coach Rice and his staff on this huge accomplishment!

It is finally here and hangs prominently in the gym. Congratulations again to Coach Da Silva and the Boys Cross Country Team for the State Championship this fall. Friday we were able to celebrate them as we unveiled and hung the state championship banner in the gymnasium. Kudos to you all!

Spring Tryouts 2024 interscholastic athletics online registration through the ParentVUE Portal opened on January 22, 2024. The ParentVUE online registration portal, available in English and Spanish, incorporates all required paper forms and documents into an internet-based platform that can be accessed using a secure ParentVUE Portal login. REGULAR SPRING REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE ON FEBRUARY 28TH AT 12:00 NOON. ALL ATHLETES NOT REGISTERED BY THIS TIME WILL MISS THE FIRST DAY OF PRACTICE. LATE REGISTRATION OPENS ON MARCH 2ND AT 11:00am. LATE REGISTRATION QUESTIONS MAY BE ASKED AT COACH HOWELL’S OFFICE STARTING AT 11:00am.

We wanted to let you know about a STEM scholarship opportunity that is only available to students in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

The 2nd Annual PAVE Essay Contest and Scholarship Program encourages high school students to imagine the future with automated vehicles, and write a well-crafted essay about what that could mean for their communities. Submissions are due March 15, 2024, and winners will be notified in late spring 2024. The top three awardees will win $2500, $1500, and $1000, respectively.

The contest sponsors are Partners for Automated Vehicle Education (PAVE), which is a 501c3 education nonprofit, as well as STEER Tech, an autonomous vehicle technology company, the Maryland Department of Transportation and the District Department of Transportation.

The Greater Washington Urban League Guild is pleased to announce year two of Project STEAM AHEAD! This immersive experience will teach basic coding skills or allow students to sharpen and enhance already existing skills in a fun and interactive way with the end result being the production of a video game with storyline and illustrations. The key is to fully engage the intellect and imagination! The program will run for five weeks from Feb 10 - March 16, with a celebration and presentation on week six. We will meet at the Greater Washington Urban League Headquarters on Saturday mornings from 10 - 11:30. If possible participants should bring a laptop, but if you don't have one don't let that be a barrier! Come prepared to have fun and learn a new skill or sharpen the ones you already have.
