March 2025
A message from Mrs. Mandell
Hello Madroña Academy Families,
March is bursting with exciting events and celebrations! We're thrilled to share updates on recent successes and upcoming opportunities for our school community!
A Night of Artistic Beauty: Ballet Hispanico - March 20th!
Thank you to TOARTs for the opportunity for our Madroña Academy families! Thanks to our wonderful TOArts school partner, all Madroña Academy families were invited to attend Ballet Hispanico! This was a breathtaking evening of dance and artistic expression. Families were offered a rare opportunity to witness world class dancers! We hope you and your family enjoyed this unforgettable experience!
- March 24th- Celebrating 60 Years of Excellence: Recognition Assembly, 8:45AM & 60th Anniversary Celebration, 9:15AM!
Join us for a very special Recognition Assembly on Monday, March 24th, where we will also be celebrating a remarkable milestone – the 60th anniversary of Madroña Academy of the Arts and Sciences! We are incredibly proud to celebrate six decades of providing exceptional education since our opening in 1964/65. During the assembly, we will recognize our students' outstanding achievements and honor the rich legacy of our school. We will be highlighting the history of our school, and remembering the many students and staff that have walked our halls. Special Photo Opportunity: To commemorate this special occasion, we encourage all students to wear their Madroña Academy uniform shirt for a special 24/25 school photo.
Cookies and Cocoa event Tuesday March 25th: Wear your PJs and join us for a night of reading by your favorite teachers and adults on campus! While you are at it, purchase a book or two at our Madroña Academy Book Fair in the library which will be open all week! We would love to see you there. (See flyer below!)
A reminder to all of our Mustangs ~ every Monday and Wednesday we are learners unified in our uniform polo shirts, and Friday is a school spirit wear day for all. Our web store link is open!
Thank you for being such a vital part of our Madroña community. Please see below just how incredible you are! Together, let’s make these events memorable and meaningful for our students and families. To all our students: Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Prepared!

TK-K: Rythym, songs, and listening.
1st-5th Grades:
Here’s what we’re up to in music:
First Grade: Singing Wise Old Owl and Cuckoo, moving to Two Little Blackbirds, Old Bald Eagle, and The Cuckoo and the Nightingale, and beginning to explore playing the big xylophones.
Second Grade: Learning the names of the spaces of the treble clef, singing and playing to Love Somebody to prepare for sixteenth notes, and listening to What a Wonderful World and Blue Skies.
Third Grade: Adding work and relaxation to our list of reasons to make music, singing and playing work songs like Sarasponda and Wellerman, and listening to pieces like Ella Fitgerald’s Old Mac Donald and Louis Armstrong’s When the Saints Go Marching In.
Fourth Grade: Identifying syncopated rhythms and performing them in songs like Funga Alafia and Guru Ndiani as we continue our musical journey to Africa.
Fifth Grade Ensembles: Students are divided in their ensembles for the remainder of the year. Students are now using instruments on a regular basis in their ensembles. Principals received the link to the Google Instrument Check-Out Form in mid-December. Students whose parents/guardians have completed the form are now allowed to take their instruments home. They must bring their instruments to class each week; students who do not have an instrument will be working on a written assignment during music class.

Parking Lot Safety
Mustang families, when dropping off students, please remember to proceed with caution and stay in the far right lane so students can exit the passenger side of the vehicle once it is stopped at the designated drop off areas only. TK/K families, if your student(s) are picking up morning breakfast, please escort them to the cafeteria and then to the TK/K playground gate. If they are not picking up breakfast, please escort them to the TK/K playground gate. If you need to assist your student, please park in the church parking lot or a non-designated space. Lastly, please do not park in handicapped marked parking areas-we do not want our families ticketed!
PLEASE NOTE: The Emmanuel church parking lot is not district property and the district is not responsible for any damage or injury when parking in the non-district owned lot.
If your child will be absent or arriving late for any reason, please remember to call our office or leave a message on our attendance line at (805) 498-6102 before 8:30am. Be sure to state the date and reason for your child’s absence or late arrival, and your child’s teacher or room number. Any unexcused absence is counted as a truancy. Students are allowed only three truancies per year before action is taken. Planning ahead with your child will also help to avoid unnecessary tardiness. Students who arrive on time feel better about themselves and perform better in the classroom. Ask about Short Term Independent Study (STIS) if your student is absent.
