Kingsley Connection
August 23, 2024
Dear Kingsley Families,
It has been an incredible first full week of school! Our staff and students have done an excellent job building relationships, establishing routines, and getting back into the swing of things.
We have been practicing our arrival and dismissal procedures, and they continue to go smoothly. We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
As a friendly reminder, the playground equipment should not be used during drop-off and pick-up times, as noted in the General Arrival and Dismissal Procedures section below.
Now that our Kindergarten through 2nd-grade students have learned the arrival and dismissal routines, we will focus on building their independence and will need your help. Beginning Monday, August 26th, we ask that parents remain outside of the fenced area near the primary playground while dropping off students, as has been done in the past. Staff will be available to assist students with where to line up if they forget.
We also kindly ask that you do not bring dogs onto school property during arrival, dismissal, or school hours. Some students are genuinely afraid of dogs, and they should not be made to feel uncomfortable while walking in or out of school daily.
We appreciate your cooperation with this.
Have a safe weekend,
Chuck Brewster (Principal) & Eleni Gajewski (Assistant Principal)
Heat relief
During the May, June, August, September and, sometimes, October heat, District 58 schools use their resources and building spaces wisely to provide relief to students and staff. District 58 is home to 11 neighborhood schools and two middle schools, and while each school’s physical space differs, in general our schools follow these procedures on hot days:
- Classrooms rotate through designated cooling areas (each school’s air-conditioned spaces) throughout the school day. Thanks to staff flexibility and creativity, lessons can still be carried out in these alternate settings.
- Classroom fans are turned on and windows are opened, to increase air circulation.
- Teachers keep overhead lights dimmed and blinds drawn, when possible.
- Students receive frequent water breaks and may carry their own water bottles.
- School nurses and staff watch for any warning signs of heat distress.
- Students are encouraged to limit exertion during outdoor recess activities.
District 58 will monitor the heat levels in our schools, and identify creative solutions to ensure our students and staff are safe and in an environment conducive to learning.

DG58 Band and Orchestra
The District 58 Instrumental Music teachers are excited to launch a new school year in BAND and ORCHESTRA and begin making music together again soon! We look forward to seeing returning students and also are thrilled to continue our work with the over 300 beginner instrumentalists who started their musical journey during our summer jumpstart program!
In-school lessons will be starting at each elementary school the week of Sep. 3rd. Once we have established this routine, students will also participate in weekly after-school rehearsals to prepare for their concerts! Please watch for an email from your student’s orchestra or band teacher with details about lesson and rehearsal schedules. Click here to meet your band and orchestra teachers - we look forward to seeing you soon!
Health/Physical Examination & Immunization Record due October 15th
As required by law, all new students, as well as students entering grades K, 2, and 6, must receive health examinations and immunizations and submit completed health forms by October 15th. To learn more check out the Health Services page on the District 58 website.
Thank you to many of the families who have already completed and submitted these forms. In accordance with Illinois law, failure to comply with these requirements by Oct 15 of the current school year, or 30 days following registration for first-time registrants, will result in the student's exclusion from school until such requirements have been met. All sections of the child examination form must be completed including the health history, which must be filled out by the parent.
District 58 communicates frequently regarding these requirements as it is our hope to avoid school exclusion for all of our students. If you are in need of additional assistance, our school nurse, Olivia Kuster at okuster@dg58.org or 630-719-5850, would be happy to assist you in answering questions or connecting you with resources to complete this requirement.
BUSING INFORMATION
Parents/Guardians,
If your student rides a bus to and from school, please make sure to be at your bus stop on time, as the buses are on a tight schedule. This will help minimize wait time for students, especially as the weather gets colder. Also, if your child is in Kindergarten or 1st grade, an adult must be present to greet them off of the bus.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures for Car Riders
Dear Kingsley Families,
We do not use a formal car line for arrival and dismissal. Please refrain from dropping off on Norfolk, as it will be reserved for bus traffic. Instead, parents/guardians may park along Powell South of the parking lot and North of Norfolk, and along Barrett, and escort their students to and from their line up location and pick up location.
If you are looking for a "Drop and Go" option, you may drop your student off right outside the primary playground area on Powell between the parking lot and the stop sign. There will be staff present to help students exiting vehicles and direct them where to go. We ask that you please remain in your vehicle to keep the line moving.
Please note that while parking along Powell, we ask that you are mindful not to park in front of driveways to avoid causing any inconvenience to our neighbors.
Our BEST program and SASED buses will continue to use the parking lot on Powell for arrival and dismissal.
For the safety of our students, these will be the only vehicles allowed in the parking lot. Therefore, please refrain from entering or exiting the parking lot during arrival and dismissal.
Please see the traffic flow graphic below. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued support.
2024-2025 School Hours and General Arrival Dismissal Procedures
SCHOOL HOURS
Grades K-6
Mondays 8:15am - 2:00pm
Tuesdays - Fridays 8:15am - 3:00pm
Arrival
Students may arrive at Kingsley School beginning at 8:05am each day when adult supervision begins. In order to assist with a timely and safe arrival process, the school playground will be closed before school. Upon arrival, students should line up by their assigned door. Students will be directed to enter the building beginning at 8:15 am. Doors will close at 8:20am and anyone arriving after 8:20am should enter through the main entrance (Door 1) to check in at the office.
Grade Level Entry Doors:
Grades K-1 Enter/exit through Door 2 (located by the primary playground on Powell and Norfolk)
Grade 2 Enter/exit through Door 3 (located by the primary playground on Powell and Norfolk)
Grades 3-4 Enter/exit through Door 5 (located by the intermediate playground on the East side of the building)
Grades 5-6 Enter/exit through Door 6 (located by the intermediate playground on the East side of the building)
B.E.S.T. & SASED Enter/exit through Door 1 (Main Entrance on Powell)
Bus Riders: Bus riders are dropped off on Norfolk. A Kingsley staff member will greet bus students and escort them to the building.
Walkers: Report directly to their grade level's hallway entry door. Staff are stationed around the building to direct students. Parents should remain on the Norfolk sidewalk or grassy field behind the intermediate blacktop if walking to school with children. This will alleviate congestion at the doors.
Dismissal/After School
Following daily dismissal at Kingsley School (2:00 p.m. on Monday and 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday), all students who are not scheduled to remain in the building must leave the school grounds and check in at their destination as there is no supervision on school grounds. We want to ensure the safety of all students.
Students may return to the playground after 3:45pm and/or on the weekends. This will be done at the family's discretion, as our district playgrounds also function as community parks outside of school hours.
If a bus is running late, families will be notified via email. For primary children, please be sure to have an adult waiting to greet them as they get off the bus.
