Parent Engagement Nights - How to Support Your Child's Learning - at Home!
We are excited to be offering 3 parent engagement sessions this year. These sessions are designed to provide tools for parents to support their child's learning. Before Christmas, we asked for your feedback - thank you to all who took the time to complete this survey on parent engagement night topics. As a result of the survey, we will be offering the following parent sessions at the school:
- February 27 (4-5 p.m.): French Immersion Parent Engagement Night
- Parents provided with grade level tips to support their child with French reading at home.
- **Please note the time** With Carnaval, we are running this session 4-5pm.
- March 4 (5-6 p.m.): Counselling Parent Engagement Night
- The focus of this session is "How to help my child managing emotions"
- March 13 (5-6 p.m.): Literacy Parent Engagement Night
- This session is jam-packed with tools to support your child with reading.
- Have you noticed your child tapping out sounds in words? Have they talked about "heart" words? Literacy instruction has changed with the new curriculum - and we are here to help!
Pink Shirt Day
Pink Shirt Day focuses on working together and treating others with dignity and respect. EOLR will be celebrating Pink Shirt Day on February 26. Students are encouraged to wear a pink shirt that day and will be involved with classroom activities and learning all about the message behind Pink Shirt Day. Due to a low supply of t-shirts, this year we will not be placing a school-wide order of pink shirts. There are various local vendors that have pink shirts available to purchase. Any pink shirt is appreciated, even if it doesn't have a kindness message.
Carnaval Volunteers
Due to the extreme cold warning this week, we have decided to reschedule our French Carnaval to Thursday, February 27th to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
With this change in date, a few of our parent volunteers are no longer available. If you are interested in helping out, we would love to have you join us! Please reach out to joel.peterman@rdcrs.ca if you’re able to volunteer.
Originally, we had our kinder, grade 3 and 4 WWJD awards scheduled for that day. We will move this to Tuesday, February 25th. This is reflected on the school's calendar.
Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to celebrating French Culture with the students on February 27th.
Merci!

The Red Deer Royals are hosting their RED Invitational on Sunday, February 23 at Lindsay Thurber High School. Along with the Royals Winter Guard and Winter Percussion, over 20 groups from around Alberta will be presenting their 2025 Winter Guard, Winter Percussion, and Winter Winds shows. This is an exciting event to see what Alberta's Color Guard and Percussion, and Marching Wind groups are all about.
Winter guard is a competitive, performance-based sport that incorporates music and choreography with the use of equipment such as flags, prop rifles, and sabers. Likewise, winter percussion and winter winds are instrument ensembles that perform at the same competitions in their own categories.
The purpose of this event is to expose the youth of Central Alberta to the Marching Arts. All students and their families are invited to this year’s RED Invitational. This full afternoon event will be held at Lindsay Thurber High School with performances beginning at 12 pm. Parents and other family members who attend can purchase their $10 ticket at the gate. All children 12 years old and younger are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Thank you for your support of the Red Deer Royals.
